Don't "diet." Instead look for a few small permanent changes that you can use to lose weight AND keep it off. My changes include: more veggies, more "whole" food in general, less snacks (no mindless eating) and working out 6 days a week. My workouts aren't huge, but they are consistent. Active people use more calories.

Weight loss is calories in vs. calories out. Plug your statistics into My Fitness Pal (MFP) and eat that many calories. If you log exercise.....you earn more. Keep in mind calorie burn adjustments are estimates. Many people eat back 50-75% - then adjust up or down based on actual results.

A good place to start is logging your regular eating habits (watching portions)......then tweak those choices as time goes on. Find more filling choices (whole foods). But I don't eliminate anything......elimination doesn't help me when I get to goal. I need to "manage" snacks (or occasional fast food) because that's what maintenance will be.

All good advice above so all I would add is a couple of things. There are no quick fixes. It takes time and sustained effort and commitmental to lose weight so avoid anything that promises fast results. They don't exist. The other thing is, find your groove, that is, find what works for you. If you are very overweight you may lose up to 2 lbs a week and that is a very realistic and sustainable target. If you are close to your ideal weight .5-1 pound per week is more realistic.

There is no single path to weight loss. Some do it eating the same foods, just less. Others go low fat or low carb. Some, like me, revolutionize their eating habits and overall diet and cut out almost all heavily processed/fast/convenience foods, sugar etc.and convert to more of a natural food diet. All approaches work so long as you maintain your calorie deficit. Don't get stuck on one path, switch it up if it isn't working.

Excellent advice from both above pals. Try to get in a little exercise every day. A 20 min walk to start out with shouldn't be too hard ( even if you break it up into 2 ten minute sessions). Logging in the meals and quantity teaches you a lot. Good luck. Add me if you need some support! Hang in there and believe in yourself. You CAN do it
