Can't stop eating at night...

I travel for work. If I'm in a hotel, no problem. Don't buy food, there's nothing to eat. I lose weight. Soon as I'm home, I cook and eat everything. On the road, I lose 2-3 pounds a week, then when I come home I put it all back on instantly. First three responses will be "stay on the road" I get it, haha. Isn't dinner the worst meal because we keep eating and go to bed? Who has mastered this?

You actually keep using energy throughout the night, so dinner isn't the worst.

If you prefer, just save a bunch of calories for the evening. That's what I do -- usually eat a lighter breakfast and lunch and then a ton* of stuff in the evening. Lost weight just fine.

You can even skip breakfast if you're the type of person who doesn't really want it -- have even more calories for the end of the day.

Experiment and find what works best for you.

    * "Ton of stuff" meaning -- I still meet my calorie goals for the day, I just plan the bulk of my calories for then.

I was coming here to say just that. I don't get hungry in the mornings at all, but I can get really quite peckish in the late afternoon and early evening; so I eat a light breakfast and lunch, and half of my calories are dinner and an evening snack.

Ignore what people say about having to have a big breakfast to set you up for the day, and listen to your body instead. Figure out what's going to work for you.

Ok. Have a reasonable dinner and clean up the kitchen. Then get busy on a project. Want more food? Fine. Reset the table. Have the food on a plate and eat it with knife and fork. No electronics. Then re-clean the kitchen. Popcorn is not fun that way! Make your TV area a calorie- free zone. Put up a sign.

I am a night time eater too - I dont eat breakfast (sets me up to be too hungry for the rest of the day), have a relatively light lunch and then chow down for dinner and into the evening. I budget my calories for this, and always have a couple hundred left after dinner for some cracker chips, some popcorn, some frozen yogurt, some dates, a glass of wine - see? Cuz it really doesnt matter what time you eat.

I fast until dinner then I feast! Having one meal a day has helped me shed the pounds and I like to feel satisfied at night!

Bored eating causing you to 'eat all the things'? There are articles that pop up now and again that say that eating at night is bad, but if you really read the studies it's because people are making really bad choices at night.

As long as you're not eating out of your calories, it doesn't matter what time you eat. I prefer a heavy dinner, I kind of bank my calories throughout the day so I know I still have a deficit at the end instead of going heavy/moderate on calories throughout the day then having a small dinner.

I already do the big dinner thing, maybe it's not so bad. I read the Rolling Stone article on a general whose daily routine is one big meal, 8 mile run on the treadmill. I always knew 6-7 meals throughout the day was bro-science anyway. Thanks for the feedback.

Brush your teeth and mouthwash. Everything will taste like crap. Haha. I know the feeling. I worked nights and when I'd get home I would raise the cabinets due to having a bad night, tired, etc. So I would keep a little bottle of mouthwash in my purse and swish while walking germs thru the door. Then off to brush and repeat. It's hard I get it. Stay focused

I'm totally a night eater. I have this weird thing where I have to go to bed with a full tummy. I recently started drinking a hot cocoa before bed and I found this to help tremendously! It fills me up and satisfies that sweet tooth.
