geodon and weight gain

Hi, am amanda I have been on geodon for 8 months and gain 18 pounds. Is there any way to lose weight on geodon?

    Hey Amanda,

    To my knowledge, Geodon is actually known to be weight neutral or may be associated with slight weight loss.

    I was on geodon before (didn't work out well for me) but it was one of the only antipsychotics/mood stabilizers that I was willing to take at the time because I was terrified of weight gain.

    Just move a bit more and stay within your calorie limit and you'll be able to lose weight! :smile:

    I tried a number of antipsychotics (not geodon) and had rapid weight gain.

    Even the 'weigh neutral' atypical antipsychotics are associated with weight gain in some people.

    The best way to combat it is keep track of what you're eating to make sure you are not eating in excess and increasing your activity levels.

    Pre empting and countering carb cravings with a filling but less calorie heavy snack can also help.
