Workout ideas for a SAHM mom?

I have a 5 yr old and 6 mo old and literally have no way to get away to a gym or bike or swim or do any of the things I use to. I have 30 lbs of baby weight to lose and am getting sick of my current exercise dvd. Any exercise equipment or workout dvds you would recommend? I have been considering a stepper with bands...but idk.

You can find so many workout videos on YouTube, just start searching. Having a few dumbbells and a yoga mat wouldn't hurt.3

Dailyburn ($15 a month, tons of programs plus the 365 video which is a different live stream workout everyday)
Fitnessblender.com (lots of videos, free)
Beachbody on demand (access to older beach bodt programs, newer ones you have to buy, I want to say $40 or so every 3 months)

Couple points. Number one as far as weight loss it's just a simple matter of eating less calories than your body Burns. You don't have to exercise to lose
As some other posters have said plenty of great YouTube videos. Personally I'm a Tony Horton Beachbody guy I've done 10 minute trainer P90 and P90X just love his routines there's a lot of great stuff out there find something you enjoy2 -
Kettlebells are easy to use at home, deliver a good burn for a short workout, don't take up much room.

Take out the kids for long walks? Get the older one a bike and get a jogging stroller to run with the baby?3

The Beachbody on demand is now 99.95 for an entire year of everything. (It used to be just the older programs).
You can go to the library and borrow a different DVD each week.
I'm a member at the YMCA. They have childcare included and there are usually programs for the kids too. (Mine offers free kids swimming lessons for members.)6 -
I have a treadmill, rowing machine and dumbbells at home
I also use carriers with my son (14 months, corrects to 10 and weighs 18lb) i front carry most of the times but on sundays we go on family hikes and i carry him on my back2 -
On rainy days I like to use the Xbox connect to do dance, Zumba, and other games that get you moving.2

30 day shred....20mins of cardio and strength! Happy days2

Hi there fellow SAHM!!! Is there certain things you like? I love dancing with fitnessmarshall, clubfitz, or keaira lashae (all on youtube), or doing shaun T on beach body on demand (love this but it does cost). Also love kickboxing and yoga. There are tons of videos on youtube for free for any of that. As well as yoga. I also love walking running even just around my house or yard while the kids play.2

I definitely recommend fitnessblender. I love their workouts and I've lost weight and toned my body. They have free videos.2

Thanks everyone!0

30 Day Shred was the first thing I did as a SAHM (started when my boys were 5 months old). It was great for me at the time.1

I am a sahm as well, with five homeschooling children. So I hear ya. I do barre3 online workouts during their nap/quiet time. It works for me, and is very low impact as well, which I like.3

Lot of good ideas. Another would be go to the gym sometime when your spouse could be with the kids0

I bought barbell plates 10, 25 and 35 lbs. it was the best use of my money for strength training and they slide nicely under my bed, away from little hands. I followed workouts on YouTube, there is a lot you can do with plates.1

I'm a stay-at-home mom, too.
I use Fitnessblender and dumbbells in my basement, and I a double a single jogging stroller- both used from our local buy/sell/trade website!
I'm about to sell the double, tough. My oldest is in school, so it's easy to plan to head out with one.2 -
I'm a sahm and I use Beachbody on demand. Love it!1

My 5 year old *loves* his scooter, and I'd have to run or bike to keep up. Get a bike trailer and get back to biking, if you used to do that.1

I have a one year old, four year old, work full time and am in college full time (in addition to running a household!) So I completely understand not having time. I purchased a magnetic row machine on Amazon for a couple hundred dollars (Sunny Health) and it's been awesome! 8 different resistance levels, and it glides well and is quiet! It folds up (and locks so it cannot be pulled down) so it fits nicely in small spaces. You can get a nice workout in a short amount of time3

Im a dvd workout addict and a sahm myself. I have yet to find anything that beats insanity. Results come fast and you stay sweating until the end. If you want something more intermediate try jillian micheals. Her videos range in intensity and she has something for everyone! Good luck!!2

I love beachbody ondemand! I've had great results and love all the options since I get bored easily. Plus they now have their recipe show for meal ideas because I definitely get sick of eating the same things all the time.1

I know my local library has several of the more common DVD's that you can check out. I'd recommend going that way and finding a few you like and then buying them.1

Look into Kettlebells - lots of workouts and they burn a ton of calories2
-
Pinterest has a ton of great at home excersizes. Between watching what you eat / drink and cardio .2

Jump rope.
It is practically free and you can do it almost anywhere.
A quality beaded jump rope is great but a simple WalMart one (weighted with swivels in the handles) will be fine.
Once you get the hang of simple jumping you can learn to skip rope like a boxer (YouTube is free...).
In a few months you could be in better cardio shape than almost anyone you know.
The calorie burn will help the fat melt off.
Of course it is WORK. Many people don't really like doing that in their "workouts"...
5 or 10 minutes of skipping rope is more intense than 30 minutes of jogging.
Most people try to stay on the balls of their feet to start.
Bodyweight squats, pull-ups, dips and push-ups can also be done at home with make-shift equipment.
@TheCupcakeCounter suggested kettlebells which is also a good choice but they can be expensive and you need to learn the mechanics to perform various lifts safely and with good technique.2 -
I built an area in my rec room that is my home gym. Have a few sets of weights, kettlebell, treadmill, and floor mats. I do all weight bearing strength training (squats, lunges, etc) and some treadmill or outside walks for cardio and yoga on my "rest" days from strength training and get just as good as a workout as paying for a gym membership. I prefer the convenience of working out at home personally.1

I'm reading "Body By You", which is a bodyweight program geared toward women. It is stuff you can do around the house without buying really anything. I borrowed it from the library to see if I like it enough to buy it, lol.1
