Hi, first used the app two years ago, it was hard but it worked a treat. Am back on it (and in the same weight range and the same goals) but find that all the calorie values seem different for food and exercise & it seems a lot more generous and - surprise - I'm not losing at all. Does anyone have similar experiences?

I've been here since 2011 and it seems the same to me. How long has it been without losing anything? If you'd like help you could open up your diary so that we can see what you're doing.

I've never found the MFP calories to work for me. I enter my own calorie goal.

Hi Everyone, sorry, I didn't see your responses earlier. Thanks for your feedback!

I'm glad I'm not the only one, who got the impression something's different.

I'm in my healthy BMI range and just want to lose 6 kilos to fit back into my pants. I'm on 1200cal/5021kj, sedentary lifestyle, but I am probably more active than that. I've been counting for a month. I had 4 days in March when I lost track (some upsetting news & I ended up indulging in cheese & wine), but apart from that, it's all meticulously and generously accounted for apart from ca. 200ml skim milk a day in coffees - I didn't track those last time either, but have started counting them now.

I usually have one or two days when I get over the limit a week, but manage to claw it back with exercise and under-eating a bit on other days. So for a month my average net kjs per week have come in just slightly under the 5021 mark. Similar exercise routine and like last time, I use the Runkeeper app for tracking exercise. - All the same, really.

I have lost 1kg over the whole month. Two years ago, doing exactly the same, I reliably lost 1kg per week! Particularly during the early weeks, the weight (and water presumably) just melted away. Not this time.

Funnily enough, I find that now I seem to be able to eat more on those 5012kj than I could last time. My dinners seem more generous, I can fit in the odd glas of wine. Or perhaps it's just that my food cravings are less severe and it seems more?

I'm sorry if I come across as a whinger - I'll keep at it because I want to make long-term changes about my relationship with food. I am just surprised (and perhaps a bit disappointed), but will continue. If the scales are not moving much in another month, I'll be back.

Also, I had a look at your page & saw you recommended weighing yourself daily to find your average - makes eminent sense to me. Will do that from now on.

Do you remember your old calorie goal you were happier with? If so just manually set it to that number.

Otherwise, you are on the right track and showing some success, so you can either settle for the rate you are currently achieving, or take your calorie goal down a bit to speed things up.

This is all just an estimate, it could be you set your profile differently this time, are tracking less accurately, exercise calories could be off; but I don't think the math has changed over the last several years. If you want to find out where the issue is then crack down on all that, but if not just keep doing what you are doing and set your calories a little lower.
