Nope. If you like those things then go ahead and have them (and keep track of the calories) but they have no magical weight loss powers. To lose weight you need a calorie deficit.

    Does nothing for weight loss.

Vinegar of all kinds MIGHT be helpful in regulating blood sugar but even this needs more study to show causation instead of correlation. All the rest of what you are reading is bunk.

Correct answer is d) None of the above. Neither grapefruit nor ACV are helpful for weight loss in any way. They're typical diet woo found in magazines and on the Dr. Oz show.

Grapefruit has an enzyme that interferes with some medications like blood pressure meds so use caution.

Apple cider vinegar kills good and bad bacteria like all vinegars.

    Honey is sugar.

I can't even imagine these three together. Would you make a paste?

    What are you reading?

Grapefruit is a filling low-calorie fruit. It's good for you, but it's not going to make weight magically go away. Basically, if you're eating at a deficit, the weight will come off. If eating a grapefruit makes you feel full enough that you only need one slice of toast in the morning instead of three, then yes, you can say it helps with weight-loss. But note that you might also get the same effect from canteloupe or Greek yogurt.

As many have mentioned, it's just more woo by the media and unreliable diet and fitness blogs and sites. Lol, if I eat grapefruit, I want to sprinkle sugar on it.

LOL! Grapefruit drizzled with honey does sound kind of yummy, though. Must try.

Try it broiled. I hate grapefruit but I have seen recipes if honey roasted grapefruit. Sounds delicious but tastes like grapefruit :s

All the above. My sister and her friend were on facebook talking about doing ACV shots. While my sister is doing WW and exercising so she's been losing weight, I'm sure her friend hadn't. She's convinced ACV is all she needs to lose weight. There's no magic unfortunately or we'd all be skinny easily.

BTW ACV does nothing to help acid reflux like it claims online. I tried and felt like I was dying more afterwards.

Although I'm one of the biggest critics of all the BS claims associated with ACV, I have tried it for acid reflux/indigestion and it's the one positive thing I can say about it. It helps mine immensely and immediately, just an ounce of ACV diluted with a bit of water and downed like a shot. Other than that I think it's a useless scam as a "supplement" for any other purpose.

Lucky. It just made mine worse. I've had to take nexium daily, or I find alkazeltzer helps. Besides diet. Otherwise it gets so bad my chest hurts and it burns in my throat

Grapefruit is a good source of Vitamin C and potassium. But it's not a magical weight loss secret. Basically, include it in your diet if you like grapefruit. Just count the calories for it like you would anything else.

I don't know. But if you want to drink Apple Cider Vinegar, get the one "with mother" for health benefits. Add it to a cup of hot water with lemon, honey and cinnamon, and you won't even know its healthy! :)

Also, grapefruit is good for lowering blood pressure. It is recommended for the heart healthy diet.

There are people with low stomach acid & those with high stomach acid.

Vinegar is for the low stomach acid folks (not me either unfortunately).

OP - vinegar does nothing for weight loss....is very hard on tooth enamel though.

No extra health benefits from "the mother". The study done that show that there MIGHT be some advantages for diabetes showed that it is the acetic acid that does it and you can get that from any vinegar, including distilled, wine, rice, etc. No special advantage to ACV except the taste.

I have been counting calories for 4 months. A month ago I started eating a whole grapefruit at least 5 times a week just because I love them. I haven't lost weight any faster than I was before I started chowing down on them.

Ok, but it does make me feel better, from pain dealing with Lupus etc, so either way... can't hurt. Cinnamon is good for diabetes too. Helps blood sugar levels.

What does it mean when it says "with mother"?

Apple cider vinegar will only help you lose weight if you drink it with your mom.

I'm an orphan - no wonder my ACV isn't working!

(and a liar - but lets not discuss that)

Just kidding. It's the unfiltered sediment that some brands of vinegar have. It has no additional health benefits, that's just an old wives tale. My mother is an old wife herself. :/

Dang it! All this time I've been drinking ACV without my mom present. Asking her to come over right now so I can drop some more weight before the weekend!!
