Swimming Weight Loss Problem

Hi everyone,

I have been swimming 3-4 times a week (30 min slots on lunch break) for about 3 months now. Although my shoulders, arms and back are toning up a bit, I am not experiencing any weight loss. Is this normal? Should I persevere or introduce weight lifting? Not looking to go crazy with weight loss, looking to lose another stone really and tone up a bit. I am 6' 5" and seem to consistently weigh 15 stone 9-12 pounds

Thanks for your help,

Rich

Swimming is great. Weight loss however is made in the kitchen. You need to eat less then you burn. Track what you are eating.

swimming is a great whole body workout - but yeah, CICO is king for weight loss (a complicating factor is that after swimming, its like must eat all things, when you really haven't burnt that many calories - a hard 2500 for me with intervals is only about 350cal, but I feel like its 1000+)

I am actually jealous You are able to do that. Our local community pool has been closed for repairs (about 2 years) and no gyms in our area have pools. I found I didn't really lose weight when I was swimming but my clothes fix much better. Water is great resistance and seems to tone muscles that get forgotten by most other exercises.

I've lost 16 lbs in 3 months from swimming 4 days a week, 45 mins each session. Of course I'm also eating at a calorie deficit

check local high schools? that is where I swim - all 3 in my area have open swim times in the evening

Thanks guys! So it sounds like swimming is good for trimming down, but not going to lose much on the scales as muscles will tone slightly? Slipped a bit on the diet as I've been away for my birthday but back on it now!
