What makes you fat excess carbs or excess fat?

I know their are factors that play into weight/fat gain. But I'm pretty clueless as to what happens if you have a surplus of carbs and fats what does more harm. I wish I knew how to ask this question better but hopefully you guys can provide some insight to this confusion for me.

Like others have said, excess calories, doesn't matter if the last thing you eat in a day is fat or carbs (or more likely some combination) or if your overall diet is higher fat or higher carb.

The energy (calories) will dictate overall storage of bodyfat.

Both and neither. Both have calories and excess calories cause weight gain. It doesn't matter the source.

I agree excess calories. The reason fat got a bad rap is the fact that one gram of fat is 9 calories vs. 4 for sugar. It's just more dense calorically. Alcohol is somewhere in between. Carbs got a bad rap because what most people eat is very refined and not very filling. So the truth is if you want to feel full eat food closer to natural but there is nothing wrong with having something high in fat or high in carb as long as you count your calories. If you're craving something that is refined go ahead but count your calories and if you don't want to overeat try to get some foods in that are more filling like veggies, lean protein, whole grain or fresh fruit.
