Home made Bread

Is homemade bread healthier than store bought breads?

I am thinking of making home made whole wheat bread as well as cracked wheat.

I think homemade bread is of superior quality, obviously fresher, and made with fewer fillers and artificial ingredients. I've read food labels where the first ingredient in a loaf of bread is "water". Anybody who has spent any time baking knows that you can NOT make bread with more water than flour. Makes me wonder what else they have holding it together.

If you get adventurous you might like playing with sourdough breads. breadtopia.com is a great resource! I have a grinder and buy wheat in 25lb bags... I do a lot less baking in summer than the rest of the year, but homemade bread is a staple at my house! Happy baking!

It depends on what your definition of "healthier" is. You will know exactly what goes into it. It may not have all the artificial fortification though of store bought but it will be fresher and probably yummier.
