I am now 196 Lbs. I started at 378 Lbs and have lost 182 Lbs. I wasn't active until I started my journey and now I can't imagine life without being active. I have another 81 to lose and I know I will get there!0

I'm 274 (down from 385) and I'm pretty active now that I've discovered that I enjoy walking, swimming and the gym
Find something you like doing and figure out how to make it fit into your daily routine.0 -
I really feel for you.
Hypothyroidism is a difficult problem to achieve true respite from. Doctors and the medical profession do not listen to what the person, particularly a woman is telling them (the ratio of women to men with issues is 8+:1) Their eyes glaze over after they tell you, "you are eating much too much!". Have they tested your antibody levels? Probably not! Hashimots often strikes after or during pregnancy, the body is under pressure from many changes caused during pregnancy. But it can happen at any other time of great stress. This is the only condition in which it is concluded the antibodies are a given and noting can be done!!! Not true.
I learned much from Stop the Thyroid Madness web site they also have a book. The Hypothyroid Mom also keeps abreast with all things hypothyroid, join up the words and use lower case. Both those sites have lists of doctors who have been mentioned by contributors/followers to have a good attitude to all things thyroid. There are also national thyroid support sites as well as free access medical papers from top US hospitals, there are also some doctors who have a helpful online presence.
There is a list of 300 symptoms which are attributed to a wonky thyroid we have our personal selection, my doctors told me to live with them. Broadly they fall into digestive, reproductive, respiratory- personal and cells (can contribute to cancers when the reproduction process is not accurate), circulatory, emotional, I don't think I have missed anything, it can underpin many of life's ailments. Thyroid, pituitary, adrenal imbalance should be identified before commencing treatment can push one towards many more symptoms. This numbers game, being told your numbers are in "normal range" is fog. Hahsimotos presents with normal numbers, but who are those numbers right for anyway, they never test us till we have difficulties. (STTM has information of the originating tests which gave the numbers we are held against)
Most of our problems stem from not having enough t3 in our cells and they only ever give us t4 and give us no information as to how we can aid conversion. We need selenium and a full range of other minerals and vitamins to help our bodies work better. Some of us are unable to achieve the t3 but most of us can if we use the range of vitamins and minerals. It bugs me most that women are told they are depressed but would probably be helped by thyroid investigations. T3 in many places is referred to as the Brain Hormone. Before we had the tests and synthetic treatments doctors would give desiccated thyroid in a try this small dose fractions of a grain and see how you go, supporting the person. I'm not saying ndt is the only way far from it. Most of us will do well when we understand the needs of our specific body. All medications have to conform to production standards but not all pills have the same amount of active ingredient in them so changing can be problematical.
This hypo thing is a double bind, our digestive tracts go on a go slow as does our metabolism. When our metabolism is slow we need less food to provide for our energy needs but the slow digestive tract compromises the digestive microbes which help us digest our food. Many find exercise is counter productive it putts too much strain on the persons system. I was shown by a nutritionist, UK registered), I could not find functional medicine here in my part of the UK. The nutritionist and I worked to correct the microbe balance, reduce the yeast over growth and introduce microbes lost by antibiotic use and poor diet. We did tests to establish the cause of my antibodies, for some it is gluten, it can be lactose mine was casein the protein in milk, it could be almost any food which is not broken down fine enough and is able to get through the digestive lining to be mistaken for our own cells because of molecule mimicry. If you dig in the papers mentioned you can find it
Please do your own research, Keep notes, look for a doctor who understands the endocrine system properly. Please take your food log and any other information you can turn into your personal data when you visit your doctor. Please don't suffer for as many years as I did. I had to learn my doctor did not know everything. I've only achieved health in the last 18 months by doing what was right for me. Please what matters is what is right for you.1
