Why is it that some people can eat 1500 cals per day when set to lose 2 lbs/week with a sedentary lifestyle while I can only eat 1200 at lightly active to lose those same two pounds? Just curious. Is it something to do with current weight?

Heavier bodies require more energy to run. As a general rule, people who weigh more burn more calories, people who are taller burn more calories, people who are younger burn more calories and people with more muscle burn more calories (which is why men tend to burn more calories than women of equal size).

All of that assumes the same activity level - but large height/weight differences are hard to overcome. I can get 10,000 steps more than my husband and he'll still burn more calories than me because he's 9" taller, 60 pounds heavier and has way more muscle mass.
