What's everyone's thoughts on toning and gaining muscle mass by using tension bands? I don't have weights so I follow a YouTube routine with tension bands.

Sometimes it can work. It depends on the exercises done, and whether the resistance is challenging enough. Which routine are you following?

Tension bands or resistance bands are a good starting point. I've done P90X using them and they do work. The only issue is you won't get the full resistance on the whole movement. I'm currently doing P90X in the gym with free weights and I do notice a difference as far as using free weights.

If it's in your budget get a set of adjustable weights. If not the resistance bands are better then nothing else

For my journey through all ten rungs of the Power 90 Series Ladder, I splurged last year on a set of Ironmaster Adjustable Dumbbells in the 75 lb range. It was worth it. Really & truly. I am set to acquire the 120 lb upgrade as well sometime this year.

I only have bands as well, and they are much better than doing nothing at all. I do P90X every morning as well a workout schedule with them at night. Just keep resistance high just like you would with free weights; they can definitely make a difference
