North Cascades Highway - Bike pics

The weather man told us the clouds would peel back Friday and reveal the sun. Living in Seattle, this is big news. I took the day off and drove my bike 200 or 300 miles (round trip) to ride on the North Cascades Highway. We never got the bluebird skies I hoped for, but it was a great time, with fantastic scenery.

By the numbers, because this wasn't just fun it was exercise too: 41 miles, ~3,800 feet of vert, 3:16:42, and 1,643 kCal. That gets me a piddly 12.4 mph at 139 watts. I feel like I would have burned about 200 more kCal if I'd been on my old wheels.

The burn zone just past Newhalem.

End of the road. Well, not for me. I only ran into skiers beyond this point.

Turn around point. This is why they close the road.
