religion and sexual preference
Everyone should listen to this song (and not the comments) and take something good away from it. As a straight person, it's probably the most beautiful song I've ever heard from a straight persons point of view:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlVBg7_08n0
Lyrics:
When I was in the third grade I thought that I was gay,
'Cause I could draw, my uncle was, and I kept my room straight.
I told my mom, tears rushing down my face
She's like "Ben you've loved girls since before pre-k, trippin' "
Yeah, I guess she had a point, didn't she?
Bunch of stereotypes all in my head.
I remember doing the math like, "Yeah, I'm good at little league"
A preconceived idea of what it all meant
For those that liked the same sex
Had the characteristics
The right wing conservatives think it's a decision
And you can be cured with some treatment and religion
Man-made rewiring of a predisposition
Playing God, aw nah here we go
America the brave still fears what we don't know
And God loves all his children, is somehow forgotten
But we paraphrase a book written thirty-five-hundred years ago
I don't know
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love
My love
My love
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
If I was gay, I would think hip-hop hates me
Have you read the YouTube comments lately?
"Man, that's gay" gets dropped on the daily
We become so numb to what we're saying
A culture founded from oppression
Yet we don't have acceptance for 'em
Call each other *kitten* behind the keys of a message board
A word rooted in hate, yet our genre still ignores it
Gay is synonymous with the lesser
It's the same hate that's caused wars from religion
Gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment
The same fight that led people to walk outs and sit ins
It's human rights for everybody, there is no difference!
Live on and be yourself
When I was at church they taught me something else
If you preach hate at the service those words aren't anointed
That holy water that you soak in has been poisoned
When everyone else is more comfortable remaining voiceless
Rather than fighting for humans that have had their rights stolen
I might not be the same, but that's not important
No freedom till we're equal, damn right I support it
(I don't know)
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love
My love
My love
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
We press play, don't press pause
Progress, march on
With the veil over our eyes
We turn our back on the cause
Till the day that my uncles can be united by law
When kids are walking 'round the hallway plagued by pain in their heart
A world so hateful some would rather die than be who they are
And a certificate on paper isn't gonna solve it all
But it's a damn good place to start
No law is gonna change us
We have to change us
Whatever God you believe in
We come from the same one
Strip away the fear
Underneath it's all the same love
About time that we raised up
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I try
Even if I wanted to
My love
My love
My love
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
Love is patient
Love is kind
Love is patient
Love is kind
(not crying on Sundays)
Love is patient
(not crying on Sundays)
Love is kind
(I'm not crying on Sundays)
Love is patient
(not crying on Sundays)
Love is kind
(I'm not crying on Sundays)
Love is patient

I am so glad Macklemore did this song and is bringing it into the rap community. I liked him on fb and he had great words on the voting day for the LGBT community Same love for everyone!!

I love, love, love "Same Love." Hub & I tear up every time we hear it. I love that it's played on VH1 every morning and frequently on the radio. It's important to kids like mine and as way to teach people that love is love and that no one should be treated like they're an abomination for being born LGBTQ+.

I believe in God but I am by no means a "bible beater". I love Macklemore and I adore that song. I think everyone should be able to live however they want and we should all be viewed equally. Love is love, its beautiful when you find it no matter who you find it with. Man and Woman, Woman and Woman or Man and Man, live and let live!0

inb4 the lock as well.. It's a great song though0 -
I love this song! It was stuck in my head today! I am a Christian, and all I know is that my ONLY job is to love everyone. I hate when other Christians try to change people and then say its what the Bible says. The Bible also says to love all. Stop picking and choosing what you believe. It's a beautiful song.0

Good song.
The only complaint is that it's literally on every 15 minutes on the radio.0 -

Thank you. I posted an intro in the introductions thread on the LGBTQ board.

Good song... overplayed. Makes me feel guilty because it makes me start hating that song.
Radio kills music.0 -
I am glad to hear its on the radio. I don't listen to pop stations much lately. My daughter has it on her IPod and yes it makes me tear. I actually know why, my daughter came out of the closet at age 17. I want her to be accepted.0

Really? I mean really?................................No just no. The bible already says homosexuals will not enter the kingdom of heaven and yes it is a sin.
/que the pro angry LGBT comments.
Looks like we jinxed it.
Get over yourself.
This is the top comment on that song. I think it would do you well to read it.If you are using the Old Testament to say why you are against homosexuality, hopefully you are also anti-pork, anti-men cutting the hair around their temples, anti-lobster, and anti-clothes made of more than one fabric.
If you are using the New Testament to say why you are against homosexuality, hopefully you are also against women with their heads uncovered at church, women teaching men, and marrying divorced women.
Cause otherwise, you're a hypocrite and your word means NOTHING!0
