I thought, hey Monster Energy ZERO has no calories. As a sedentary truck driver, i downed one a day, ran a calorie deficit EVERY day and gained. Then, i upped water to at least 10 16.9oz bottles a day and started dropping. Artificial sweetners mimic sugar so your brain still thinks you are eating or will be wating sugar. I track EVERYTHING on MFP app. Podcasts have changed the way i think about eating. At 50, and make, being 400# scared 60# SO FAR out of me. Being tall, at 6'7", getting to 275# is my goal.

I definitely find that drinking adequate water helps me feel fuller for longer compared to all other drinks. Sometimes when I am tired and I drink low/zero calorie sweetened beverages I find that I unintentionally snack more (often without realizing I am doing it, a peanut here, a chip there, a bite of a kids' cookie). Usually my ability to resist sweets and snacking is not a problem.

It's not really the zero calorie drink that was the problem, it's often a combination of issues that come down to us eating more after consuming something sweet. I agree that many people should consider drinking water rather and energy drinks, but there's nothing about a zero calorie sweetened beverage that would cause weight gain.

That happens to me, as well. I need something salty to go with the sweetness. Big trouble for me!

Drinking water is great, but the rest of what you said is not supported by science or logic.

More than likely you were retaining water from being under-hydrated, that's nothing to do with the can of Monster Energy. I like many others drink diet coke (one a day mon-fri) and it doesn't make me gain weight. However, if I have night on the beer, and don't drink as much water my weight will go up 2-3lb over the weekend until I rehydrate myself and flush my system out again, it's not fat.

I drink coffee, tea, diet soda and then 1-2 glasses of water a day. Have had no problems losing 50lbs or maintaining the loss now for a few years doing things this way :)
