I'm trying to drink a gallon a day. Is this enough? How important is water to weight loss?

Water is great for our bodies, but it's not typically necessary to drink a gallon a day. We do get some water through our food and through other things we drink. If you wanted to cut back it's not going to negatively impact your weight loss.

It's important to remain hydrated, however it doesn't necessarily need to come through plain water.

Water is important for health - not too little or too much. It also doesn't have to come from plain water.
    No relevance to weight loss.

Picking an arbitrary amount isn't a good idea at all. A gallon could be far too much, just right or not enough.
No-one knows your climate, how much activity/exercise you do or if you happen to be someone who sweats a lot or a little, or the rest of your diet.

Go by your thirst, the colour of your urine and frequency of urination.

For most people, just drink when you are thirsty and ignore the 8 cups or 2 gallons or whatever rule is going on out there today. Urine should be slightly colored, but not too dark.

Google color of pee and you can see guides on ensuring proper hydration.

Beyond that, it helps to fill up if your meals have lots of water content; soups are more filling than just eating the raw ingredients.

It's important. Water, diet and exercise all work hand in hand.
