Pretty Depressed

Hi. So I just got on the scale for the first time in over 3 years and it read 151 pounds. I'm 23 years old and I'm 5'6. 3 years ago it read 136 and I felt too heavy at that. I'm pretty depressed because the last time I was over 150 pounds, I was in high school and feeling like absolute poop about myself. I kind of knew that I had gained weight. I mean, I'm not blind, but I figured maybe 5 or 10 pounds. Not 15. Not back to where I started years ago. My mom, who is 59 years old is only 5 pounds heavier than me. I'm depressed because I don't feel like I have the energy to put forth all the effort to get back down to where I was happy.

3 years ago, I suffered from exercise bulimia pretty badly. I would work out at high intensity for 2-3 hours a day and I effed up my heart rate where it was stuck at over 200 even just on an exercise bike at the slowest pace ever. I was dizzy too. So I got afraid of exercise. Since then, I've only really done walking or skipping or the occasional leg lift/arm lift type of things.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I have a hard time finding balance with weight loss. I either go overboard to the extreme where it is no way near healthy anymore or do nothing at all.

Is there anyone here who is like me? Do you have any tips or advice for me?

You're here, so that's a step in the right direction. My tips....1) set your goal to lose 1# per week and do what MFP says, including eating back at least 50% of your burn. 2) get plenty of sleep and drink lots of water and 3) read the success stories here to see how thousands of people have lost 15# and much more.

Yes, all of this ^^^ -- especially sleep and taking it slow. I know you feel down right now, but just resolve to make one small change at a time (whether it's to your diet or activity level). Don't get overwhelmed...you will see positive results over time. Keep checking MFP to stay motivated -- it's full of great tips & support. :)
