Home Depot is killing my running
Just venting. I started at Home Depot six months ago and being on a cement floor all day some how has cost me minutes in my running. I had thought all those steps would actually help me out compared to my old desk job. Now my legs are so tired my pace has really dropped off! That really sucks. I know many others out there also stand on hard floors all day and I have heard all the help about good quality shoes. I think my shoes are fine as at the end of the day I have no pain. Its just when I try and run before work or after.

If you're not covering the calories burned by "all those steps" you're going to drag when you try to run.2

It's weird how concrete does a number on your legs like that. You should check into new shoes2

I know what you're going though.. I had a desk job for 7 years and now I'm in a warehouse driving a reach truck and moving around constantly.. For the first month I thought my feet were gonna fall off from being on them all the time, but the body adjusts.. Get a good pair on insoles to help you out.. It did a world of good for me and now my feet legs and back aren't as tired and sore as they were before.. And make sure to do lots of stretching in your downtime... When I had a desk job I would go for a run at lunch and walks on breaks but all in all this is much better. Lifting objects and off and on the reach I tack on a good 10,000 steps just at work..

Second that, good shoes (with cushioned soles) are vital if you are on your feet all day. Strong back/regular back exercises too0

Yeah, good shoes and insoles. Even then though... I walk a lot (average is 21k steps a day) and it just wouldn't matter, my legs are just too sore for any kind of running.0

Good shoes with arch support and compression socks help too!
Stretch your legs when you get chances too. It' crazy, your feet might not hurt at all all day long but suddenly your feet and knees kill... Mine especially do that after standing all day and sitting for a short period of time... And then trying to walk let alone run.0 -
Roll your feet over a can 2x day. Also, foam roll.
I also like arnica gel on the calves and shins if there's soreness there.0 -
As someone who has recently suffered from feet problems, I have lots of recommendations. First off, Dr. Scholls aren't the best. My podiatrist told me never to get them. I bought some Vionic Shoes. They are excellent in arch support and heel pain. I also highly recommend Sketchers. The GoWalk4's are amazing!! I agree with what was said about rolling your feet. I used a frozen water bottle. Also, check out stretches online. The stretching recommended for people that suffer from Plantar Fasciitis sounds like it might help you. And treat yourself to a spa pedicure. I see men getting them all the time when I go. Not only will they massage your feet, they'll get your calves too.1
