Is there anyone who is training for an Ironman on an 80 10 10 diet?

A friend of mine mentioned 80/10/10 to me, but I failed to see why it would be beneficial to limit fat so much. You get so many essential fatty acids from fat and essential amino acids from protein that your body cannot produce on its own. There are no essential carbs, so I don't get why that would be the one nutrient they would choose to dominate their diet.

Granted, I haven't read the book so I could be totally wrong.

I just finished an Ironman in May, and the whole 26 weeks I was aiming for 55-60c, 20-25p, 15-20f. It worked perfectly for me. I gained a little weight due to the "rungries" and over-eating, but not because of the mix. I logged about half the days of the week and checked my weekly graphs, not daily.

I think 80-10-10 would be too low for me. I love fatty food + more protein for recovery can't be bad...
