As someone who sells bridal gowns I can tell you that on average (depends on the designer of course) 10 pounds is 1 inch. How many inches short are you from closing? I would suggest having the seamstress put in a corset. Plus, usually there is about 1 inch give in most of the dresses to let out. As someone who is getting married in August, I understand your concern and urgency as we want to look the best on our day, but I agree with everyone else that it is NOT WORTH your well being and overall health (and looking like the walking dead in wedding pictures) to push to unhealthy limits. Everything will work out as it should. I have seen the seamstress at our shop work MIRACLES. Deep breaths. It will all work out.5

I just reread your post and realized that you said you are 6 inches off. Thats about 60 pounds. So, stop putting so much pressure on yourself because it isn't possible to lose 60 lbs in 3 months unless you are amputating body parts. Talk to a seamstress, get a Plan B just in case, and hope for the best. Work hard, but don't work yourself to death. You are worried about your wedding pictures, right? Well, if you look malnutritioned and exhausted it is the same as your dress being too tight. Relax and find a good seamstress.6 -
OP, as so many have said just try your best, without putting your health at risk. Try to remember, all brides are beautiful! You will be too! Enjoy this very special time in your life, congrats to you both!2

As several people have said, you should estimate about 10 lbs per inch on your waist from "ideal".
So 6" loss on your waist to fit your dress is about 60 lbs of excess fat.
Sounds like you are guessing you need to "lose 30 lbs" because you are not being honest with yourself about how far away you are from your goal.
You are just setting yourself up for disappointment and failure.
You should have thought ahead and began this 6 months or a year ago.
Thinking about short term gratification and "results" is one reason why you are in this predicament.
Being healthy and fit is a lifetime commitment, not a "11 week" one.
Maybe you will use this as a wake up call to make some long-term lifestyle changes.
You losing "30 lbs in 11" weeks is ambitious in itself because you do not yet understand the diet and exercise requirements needed to make this happen.
Losing about 2 lbs a week -less than 10 lbs per month- is about the best sustainable average you can expect in the long-term.
You could theoretically lose more at first but that will taper off eventually.
Developing the discipline to stick to it without making excuses and rationalizing your behavior will be hard at first also.
Weight loss is not linear so you cannot guarantee losing (or gaining for that matter) any amount of "weight" per week, regardless.
What amounts to about 60 lbs in 11 weeks just isn't going to happen, sorry.
Invoking "God" will not help you either.
But NEXT year, you could easily have lost 60 lbs of excess fat if you put in the work.2 -

As the others have already said, its an unrealistic goal but do what you can, you could lose maybe half what you wanted and the dress might fit if you use Spanx. Could it be let out if not?? a dressmaker might have a solution if not and be able to insert a panel at the back or something.
All the best.0 -
Keto diet will allow you to drop weight relatively quickly, but that might be too extreme. Just do the best you can and have the dress let out.0

the six week Eat to Live challenge would work well for you. Plenty of nutrition but it takes a ton of discipline1

I think The Biggest Loser has done the most harm around corrupting proper expectations for safe weight loss. When someone only loses a couple pounds in a week, they are the team failure and likely sent home. Losing double digits each week is applauded.
Almost everyone has put the weight back on. Look it up.
The process is simple when you have a trainer monitoring your diet and driving you to exercise every day.
Not much real effort -understanding, discipline or thinking- is necessary for the contestants, in the short-term.
Quick results so you are not embarrassed on a TV show instead of real lifestyle changes.
Short-term motivation instead of long-term discipline.
As soon as the show is over, many of them balloon back up.
I have no respect or sympathy for those people.0 -
Keto / Paleo (low, low carb/sugar - 45% protein, 40% fat and 15% carbs / sugar) is the way to go definitely. Check out Paleo Leap and Paleo Tribe for ideas.
Generally I have a homemade protein shake with konjak fiber for breakfast, a blended veggie jar with more konjak powder and a side of full fat Greek yogurt for lunch and then a high protein low carb veggie for dinner. (That's between 1200 to 1400 calories overall every day).
After the initial shock there are really no hungry pangs or tummy rumblies. Don't be afraid of fat - use olive oil and natural meat fat and dairy as well as coconut products as part of your overall calories. (You can make amazing things with coconut flour - like fat head pizza.) It keeps you satiated while you are on this diet.
DO NOT drink diet anything!!! If you are currently drinking diet sodas taper off slowly and drink flavored water like "Hint". You will mess this up otherwise because Phenylalanine an essential amino acid, which your body needs to build proteins, is in foods such as poultry, pork, fish, milk, yogurt, eggs, cheese, soy products, bananas, certain nuts and seeds. Aspartame, an artificial sweetener used in many diet sodas, is high in phenylalanine, also... It can cause you to feel worse.
Phenylalanine can trigger allergic reactions, with symptoms such as:
Itching
Swelling of the face or hands
Trouble breathing
Tingling feeling in the mouth
Side effects may include:
Heartburn
Fatigue
Nausea
Constipation
Dizziness
Headache
Anxiety and hypomania (a milder form of mania)
Sedation
Jitteriness and trouble sleeping
I was able to lose 23 lbs in on 1400 calories ( and admittedly I was compliant only about 75 - 80% of the time) in four months because I purposely went slowly. (I didn't want to pucker and wrinkle). Maybe if you went down to 1200 calories you could get reasonably close to your goal.
Also, not mentioned, check around to see if a salon near you offers Far Infra-Red (FIR) light therapy. Usually it's a stand up tanning bed with FIR bulbs. It really helps with water weight and is great for your skin (unlike UV tanning beds). That will ensure that you aren't bloated (not that you would be on Paleo) and they say it melts fat. I have noticed that for my age I don't have a lot of cellulite and I attributed it to this. Any sauna would be a good idea.
Just keep in mind that you must keep your electrolytes balanced on Paleo / Keto because if you don't you will feel ghastly. (It's called the Keto Flu.)
Good luck and friend me if you want some recipes / support.0 -
Try asking your doctor if you can take Phentermine, it is a prescription medication that promotes weight loss. I have been taking that for 3 weeks, and along with following something similar to the Atkins diet (no carbs, no sugars, no fruits, etc...) plus, working out a minimum of 30 minutes per day, I have lost 17 pounds in those 3 weeks. My sister has lost 30 pounds in 5 weeks, following the doctors orders. So it can be done, but you have to be willing to work hard, and maintain a healthy mindset. Just a suggestion! Good luck!1

I'm not here to beat you up any further but I'll say it's possible. Definitely not permanent but possible. If i had to compare it would be similar to a fighter/boxer prepping to drop a weight class. It's possible but most of them will tell u it took a lot out of them. Plus the weight always comes back.0
-
For Petes sake, please stop. Completely changing her diet or going on prescription medication for the two months before her wedding so she can fit in a dress that is way too small is NOT the answer.
Yes if someone is very obese, they can lose a lot of weight within the first couple of months. But we have no reason to think OP has enough weight to lose for that to be the case. And it doesn't even necessarily happen for everyone who is very obese.
You are all going to have her feeling miserable for two months she probably has a lot still to do to get ready for her wedding, and she probably still won't fit into the dress.7 -

No fighter or boxer I've known has tried to cut what amounts to 60 lbs of fat in 11 weeks.
Not without using banned substances anyway.
I know of one pro fighter who -on paper- dropped 26 lbs of water and muscle in 5 days.
A pro fighter, with a pro trainer and sponsors.
That is not what we are talking about here.
Someone who is about 60 lbs overweight is not in good enough shape to dream of working that hard.
I am not even speaking to the damage and stress put on the human body while trying it.
Saying she can do it is NOT helping her.1 -
It is going to be difficult to lose that amount in 11 weeks but it is not impossible! I would go for a high lean protein diet, veggies, berries (lower in sugar) and a very low carbs. You still should be eating at least 1200 calories in a day. Exercise daily at a semi intensity. I did a six week weight-loss challenge through Fit For Life Solutions and during my first challenge I lost 26 lbs and have kept off and have not lost a total of 53 lbs.0

Thank you!
On a side note: Keto isn't something magical that over rides calories in vs. calories out. Initial water weight loss can be impressive, but REAL weight loss is calorie deficit. 2.72 pounds a week is a 1,360 calorie deficit every single day, and that deficit gets harder to reach as OP becomes a smaller person.4 -

Losing a pound means doing without ~3500kcals, so a pound a week is a defecit of 500kcals per day. A common maintenance intake is 2000kcals/day. So, to lose 3 lbs a week, you'd have to stay at juat 500kcals a day, which is dangerously low for extended periods. Health is beautiful!
My maintenance is about 2300 so ive set my intake to about 1100 for 2.5 a week. My body has alot to lose so I figured id be ok0 -
Try to lose weight sensibly. 3lbs a week isn't going to work. Other than that, stick in a corset back. My wedding dress was the wrong size (even though we ordered the right size) but we got it altered, put in a corset back, and it was great. Adding additional fabric or a corset back isn't bad if you get it done properly.0

feleciag09 wrote: »Hi guys! I'm trying to lose 30lbs in 11 weeks and I'm dying here. Reason for the extremely quick weight loss is that I'm getting married in July. My dress came in last week and it didn't fit which was expected since I ordered it 2 sizes too small. (It was the only size left and I loved the dress) We'll anyways, I didn't realize there was such a size difference within brands so the dress was suppose to only be 4inches small and well..it's 6 inches too small for me.
OP, I'm sorry to read you're stuck in this situation. Planning a wedding is stressful enough. I am disappointed to read that the shop agreed to order a dress that was far too small. I know, you wanted it and you're the customer so what you say counts. But part of their job is to help you look fab on your wedding day, not just take your money and let you stress out trying to lose a lot of weight in a short time because your dress doesn't fit!
I have to echo what's already been said. Try to lose some weight but be realistic and have a backup plan. That might mean a totally new dress or altering this one to include a corset. Either way, do not leave any dress options until the last minute. Professional tailors need time to make the changes properly. You can't just wait to see how much you will lose and then in week 11 ask for major alterations. Think ahead now.
A corset addition is an advantage because you can cinch it up however far you need for whatever weight you've lost.
Most importantly - be kind to yourself and think long-term. A wedding is a huge event, but in the long run it is only one day of a lifetime together. :flowerforyou:4
