Making myself accountable: hi :)

Hi
One of my goals this year was to get involved with a weight loss forum. So here I am.
I'm a 30 y/o female born and raised in NYC but I moved to The Netherlands 3 years ago. (Hi Dutchies?!)
My weight gain began in 2013 when my father was diagnosed with an aggressive recurrence of prostate cancer. He passed away in 2014. I took that year of my life to take care of him and spend as much time with him. All of the stress, eating at hospital cafeterias at strange hours and lack of exercise over these past 5 years led to a 60 lb. weight gain. I stopped taking care of myself because it was important to care for my father.
After he passed away, I struggled so much with my mental health, a difficult Graduate program and living abroad (I moved in the beginning of 2014, he passed in Oct 2014). My physical health has taken a toll as well; my asthma has worsened, issues with acid reflux and insulin resistance.
So here I am now in 2017; I'm now seeing a dietician who has me on a pretty good plan. I joined the gym last month and after healing from a nose surgery, I'm ready to fight for getting the life I want back.
I share my story because I want to be a part of this community and be accountable. It is so easy to demotivate myself and feel horrible about where I am now but I know that can change.
So hi
Also, I would love to make some friends that are also on their own personal journey so feel free to add me!

Hi gogringago! Welcome to the group. I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my dad in 2012 to cancer and it was hard. My mom passed in 2014 from dementia related issues and I took time to care for her as well and gained a lot of weight eating out because that's what made her happy in her last months of life. Good luck to you on your journey!0

Losing somebody close can be hard both on your mental and physical health. I'm proud of you for turning things around and getting back to a more healthy lifestyle after everything you've been through!1
