Hi all,
36/M/London... restarted this after a gap of 3+ years. Generally going well. Headed in right direction.
However, any and all bumps in the road being attributed to one area... alcohol related socialising. So I've cut out Beers and go straight to Spirits, so Whisky neat or JD-diet coke etc. Net effect of this is, that I am the first one drunk. Which isnt the best with anything related to work. Also, I'm finding when I do start getting inebriated, I lose all sense of 'whats good, whats not'. So case in point, other night, I was sticking to JD-diet coke, but then out come the Jaeger bombs (with Red bull) which are high in sugar. So all good work out of the window.
Anybody else have this issue??!
Also - snack food wise, when out drinking? I *try* to avoid meat... but guessing things like Buffalo wings are best with booze? which is low carb/low calorie?
Are they any definite No NOs? Crisps chips? Nachos with cheese etc? ... is calamari okay?
End of the night? Pizza - No NO obviously. Donner kebab without pita/wrap okay?
Cheers,
Tarun.

Just keep your calories in check the rest of the week, eat lower a few days to save them up for a night like that and get in more exercise.

I am going to Vegas for a trip soon so I did a little research on indulging without over indulging and what drinks tend to be lower in calories. I plan on having (depending on what I feel like) short gin and tonics, champagne or 4 oz glass of wine and alternating my drinks with having either plain H2O or soda H2O in between drinks. That way I keep the alcohol at a minimum while still getting to indulge.

This sounds all too familiar to me, which is why I'm trying my hardest to steer clear of nights out!

Maybe limit yourself to a night out a month and the other weeks socialize by doing something different such a cinema or bowling etc with maybe a couple of cheeky ones?

Nothing wrong with pizza, I love the stuff.

    Read up about calorie banking.

I save 200 or so calories week days so I can enjoy my weekends.

The problem you have is getting drunk in work situations, I'm not one for mixing work with more than 2 drinks.

Thanks for all the tips guys. Much appreciated.

Weezy - I know. I try to avoid as many casual Friday after-work drinks as possible. Things like birthdays a bit trickier.
Don't want people to know Im doing this either. Always met with awkward questions or outright pisstake esp.,with guys.

Julie - enjoy Vegas. Avoid the Jaeger bombs. Haha.

RunARound - yup. Known Known RE: drinking with work. Think 2 and out best way to go esp., when Boss/Boss' Boss about.

I find that with my restricted calorie count it doesn't take much, 1 usually, to get me loopy. I drink slow and have water available along with my drink. I also "bank" calories during the week if I know I'm going to go out. And yeah, the Jaegar bombs, lol, once they come out........it's all down hill from there. :#

If you're just drinking to be socially acceptable and don't want to be the first one sloshed, try the low cal beers. They're not so bad. I like them as it allows me a whole beer to sip, with minimal calorie damage, and minimal drunkenness.

Hi. Yeah, sounds a good idea... Coors Light ? I remember Michelob used to do a Low carb one but havent seen it at all lately (let alone in a pub or a bar).

Michelobe Ultra for me. They are 90 calories. I had 3 of them last Sat night and that was enough. I had a nice little buzz and I didn't bust my calories for the day.

Coors light is good, I like Corona light, mich ultra is the low carb one you're thinking of - i like that one too. Heineken light is a fav of mine too. Those are all only like 90 - 100 cals for a 12 oz. bottle, and I think anywhere from like 3.7 - 4.7 abv. Totally do-able.

You might be able to get a whiskey and diet Coke and ask for like... just half a shot? Or a taller glass with more soda. Then it'd last longer and not get you hammered as fast. (Plus it'll be smoother and may cost less!)

Hi. Yeah good idea! Think the latter... shot of whisky separate to pint glass of diet coke?

Wellll... hm. If you have any concerns about people razzing you about reducing how much you're drinking, I'd definitely mix it in rather than sipping the shot (which looks unusual). I'd also probably ask that it NOT be served with ice - just add extra diet Coke.

And honestly? When you go back to the bar for "another," just get a diet Coke ;) and everyone will figure you're having another mixed drink!

As far as snack food... chances are really good that it's going to be really high-calorie. If you know where you're going, you might look online ahead of time to see if you can do any research on their menus. But I wouldn't hold out much hope for low-cal food. They *might* have air-popped popcorn.
