Wow... Scrolling through some of the posts today and some of the posts from newcomers sound just like I did when I started... Looking for a time line or wanting to know HOW to lose weight and the beauty of the site and weight loss in general is that it really is very simple.
But it takes time and there are no magic fixes.... No good foods.... No bad foods.
It made me reflect on my own journey.
I was 270 lbs three years ago. My highest though I was always dieting.
When I found this site I wanted a quick fix. Plugged in the 1200 number, cut out bread and walked everywhere. But continued to binge during my cheat day.... Days....
When it finally clicked for me I realized that the "mean, unsupportive CICO" folks were actually not mean and unsupportive... They were right.
I changed to one lb a week and chilled out. Learned how to eat food. Learned how to love my body. And even with a few slips and trips along the way I can honestly say I am glad there were no quick fixes. I am glad it has taken a long time.
Because I loved the simplicity.
I am down to 185 now and I have a loose goal of 50 more lbs but there is no rush.
Newcomers, I know you are all on your own journey... But take the time to enjoy it. There will be weeks where you lose and weeks you don't. The advice of seasoned mfp'ers isn't unsupportive, it's experienced.
All the best to you all.

Figuring out a plan I could stick to long term certainly was a game changer for me too! And helped me not regain it all. Thanks for sharing.2

I love this!!! I too reflect a lot as I read newcomers and remember how daunting it all was. Lol I remember reading several threads about mean CICO people too, the experienced saying they're just being honest and helpful and the newer people saying it was mean. Turns out, we all need a kick in the butt sometimes!1
