My face blew up with hives as you see on my chest, neck, and the peeling on my face. My stomach looked like I was 8 months pregnant just from eating gluten free rice and a cup of oatmeal yesterday morning.0

Hey! I was misdiagnosed with celiac disease for a year and a half. I bet it was the oatmeal that did it. Some people with celiac disease are still sensitive to gluten free oatmeal because it can be up to 20 ppm gluteny. You might just have to play around with different brands.1

Most oats are not gluten free. They are usually highly contaminated. I haven't touched oats in years because the risk is just not worth it.
If you are a celiac, and want to eat oats, I would ensure that they are GF... and even then I would think hard about it. For many recovering celiacs the gliadins in oats affect us the same, or very similarly, as gluten in wheat, barley, etc.2 -

Oh, that's interesting, I didn't realize that! Good info (I don't really care for oatmeal so haven't run into this). OP, for years before I was diagnosed I used to come out in random hives and rashes (you should have seen me when I went on a wheat germ kick...) I would pay attention when that happens - clearly your body really doesn't like what you ate. So many of us are triggered by so many different things besides the basic wheat, oats and barley.1 -

Hi guys sorry my phone screen broke i couldn't use the app. To answer PP question i wanted to share the information with those suffering with this annoying problem and try to help others know these facts as well as i learn myself new ways to enjoy eating healthy without the 6 month pregnant look of bloating, face swelling up with hives and not feel deathly sick.
I changed my diet to eating raw fruits veggies roast beef and chicken and im down 4 lb in less then a week and a half so far. I wasnt even trying to get back on my diet yet! I think i found a new one. Anyone else find any healthy yummy foods that are helping you through your weightliss journey to grow my list of foods i can eat while losing the rest of my baby weight0 -

What did you eat that made you react like this? Also same question as @Snickerscharlie which by the way are the names of my tow favorite cats.0

@skybleu329 you should make sure that the roast beef (if it is deli style) and the chicken (any cheep store or off brand) are gluten free I got really sick eating frozen bagged chicken from Walmart boosted with chicken broth.0

This for sure. Meats and sauces are often flavored with wheat or barley extract, and in the U.S. barley isn't considered a common allergen and doesn't have to be called out specifically in the allergen information. And for some reason wheat extract sometimes doesn't show up in the allergen info either - I'm not sure about the rules in the U.S. for why not, but I've been caught out a few times.0 -

Was your oatmeal certified GF? If not that's the likely culprit. Oats and wheat are often processed by the same machinery causing cross-contamination.0 -
