Probably the dumbest question ever...It's all about the buns

I've been logging my food, but one thing is bothering me. I'm going to have a chicken sandwich for lunch. Does 'bun' in the database refer to just the top or the bottom or both the top and bottom? I even tried weighing the bun on my scale, but the numbers didn't quite add up, so I'm still not sure. I feel like a total idiot for asking, but I don't want to put 'bun' in my diary once when I need it twice for a sandwich.

    Use the package information.

If bun is listed in the database by weight, then change the logged weight to how much your bun weighs the you will have logged your particular bun.

Generally it would be the whole bun. But agreed with making sure the package weight/info matches the database one. If it's still off (you'll run into this with many items), you can try a different database entry, or make one yourself that actually matches what the package says. I've been here for 3 years and I probably still have to make 1 food item every other day since it's not correct in the database. I just don't make it available to other MFP members (there's a checkbox for that when you make the food item entry).

why not make it available if it's a correction?

Thank you. I'll put in the proper weight and calories and such. I thought it would be the whole bun but I wanted to make sure.

Because then someone else can make their own correction, possibly reverting it back to its original inaccurate state :)

if you're weighing it, it shouldn't matter - only the weight matters. A whole bun might be 80g or 60g, or any other random number. if you eat a portion, weigh the portion you intend on eating and log that.
