I just made a realistic grocery list and it is way too expensive. It's nothing crazy, eggs, oats, apples, celery, cucumber, salad, tuna, wraps, chicken, rice, brocoli, and asparagus and it rounds to $80!!!! For ONE week worth of food?! WTF AM I DOING WRONG !?

Are any of these frozen options? $80 for all of that does seem quite expensive so maybe it is the store you are looking purchasing them from? Is this canned or fresh tuna?1

Where are you shopping?0

OMG I DO ! I'VE NEVER EVER EVER HEARD OF THAT STORE BUT I JUST GOOGLED IT !0 -
Maybe try another store? And as someone said try some frozen veggies. They still have great nutritional value.
Buy store brand.
Get a stores loyalty card for more savings.
I spend 50-60$ a week on my husband and I shopping at Safeway (if you have one download their app. I save up to 30$ a week using it)/fred Meyer.
Sometimes you have to change what you're getting to fit a stores sale. Like getting green beans vs asparagus, pears vs apples etc etc
Also where do you live?1 -

It was mentioned in every one of your other budgeting threads. I honestly think you're not very interested in taking advice if you haven't googled it after 3 threads.14 -
This is for 2 people, 3 meals a day? That averages to less than $2 a person per meal, doesn't seem to bad, but maybe I need to work on my budgeting for food lol. Those prices look pretty good to me for comparing to prices at my stores but maybe you can get more bang for you buck with some things at a wholesale store.0

Yes once I go to the store I will pick fruits and veggie accordingly. This was just a general idea for the most part! And I will look at the frozen veg if it's cheaper ! How do you cook them? Worcester County massachusettes0 -

Per other threads, OP only has $5/day or $35/week to work with.1 -
It's expensive to eat healthy.

Yes, keep an eye on the frozen veggie sales. Sometimes they are on sale for $1 a bag, so I stock up. I usually microwave, boil or steam, depending on which veggie it is.1

Nope. I also mentioned in another thread someone offered to bug my groceries0 -

Everyone tells me that's a misconception lol0 -
I am a vegetarian, and my food can be much cheaper. Something small that you could swap out is a bag of dried chickpeas for the tuna if you're making tuna salad or eating it with crackers. Look up how to make "chickpea" tuna salad. All you have to do is cook the chickpeas in a pot (I prefer a crockpot if you have one), then mash with seasoning and condiments. One lb of chickpeas is like $2, and it should make a week's worth of "spread" or salad.0

Apples are out of season so a little more expensive now. Asparagus is one of the most expensive veggies. Wraps are double the cost of a loaf of bread most of the time and you get half as many meals out of them.3
-
Did you check out Market Basket, as I suggested yesterday? Boneless, skinless chicken breast is $1.99 a pound right now. You could stock up and freeze it! I just grabbed several packages last night while it's on sale...that could last you a while for minimal cost.1

Their store brand products are great, so are the meat and produce. When I shop at Walmart, Shaw's or Hannaford, I easily spend twice as much as I spend at Market Basket. In our area of the US, you can't beat their prices.2 -
Buy a large tub of yogurt instead of the individual servings. Buy frozen or in season fruits.9

Yes 2 people 3 meals a day and 2 snacks. I'm going to go to a few stores and compare prices !
I thought you had a roommate but were only responsible for buying your own food?- Apples aren't nutritionally worth $1 each. If you can't find them cheaper, buy a big bag of frozen mixed berries for the same price - it'll go a lot further.
- WalMart carries big boxes of organic spring mix/spinach for less than $5.
- Broccoli and asparagus will be much cheaper frozen and equal to better quality nutritionally. The same is true of most frozen veggies.
- Personally, I'd skip the cucumbers. Too expensive for what you get (plus, they kind of 'meh' to me.)
- I'd also skip the veggie chips and buy a bag of potatoes instead. Much more versatile.
- I could get a week's worth of dinners from a $10 package of boneless/skinless chicken breast (regularly $2/lb at my Walmart). It would get boring after a while, though.
- Consider adding some pasta, rice, and beans/legumes to round out your meals and provide some variety.

I Buy For MG Boyfriend And I our roommate buys for hinself. I'll look into the frozen mixed berries. Thank you. I'll also look into the frozen veg. I LOVE cucumbers so I don't think I could give that up. I could eat chicken every night I will just cook it different and put it with different veg. I plan on eating rice with my chicken and veg every day for dinner0
