For those of you saying only ones who sit on the butts gain weight, this is not true. I was prescribed this a few weeks ago and have been on a no carb, low calorie diet. Work out 5 times a week and walk 3-4 miles 5 times a week. I was prescribed 25 mil once in the morning and once in the evening. It made me too sleepy so I take it at bedtime. It does not give me the cravings. I have gained weight on it and I can not lose any. So yes it is very possible to gain and it be caused by the med alone.

    @aprildawn17,
    I noticed this thread a couple spots ahead of yours. I haven't read through it, but if you haven't yet seen it, it may (or may not) be helpful to you. Best of luck.

    Medication can definitely cause weight gain. For most of us it was being sedentary but adding medication is a whole other animal. Hopefully you find a good balance :/

    My husbands doctor prescribed him seroquel as a sleeping tablet (the lowest dose available). I took one every now and then, and each and every time i woke up the next day feeling lethargic and incredibly hungry! So yeah, it caused me to overeat coupled with the hungover, no energy feeling and if i continued to take it, it would have resulted in weight gain.

    Antidepressants=wt gain. My advice get off them and figure out your mental health issues. My feeling is medication is a bandaid.

    Wow, no no no. This is horrible advice. As a nurse you should know better.

    Medication can be an absolute life saver for some. We don't need people (especially in health care) medication shaming. Medication shaming is what kept me from taking medication that truly made a huge difference in my life (now a stable bipolar).

    Well the question was about Seroquel and weight gain. Google the side effects - that's one of them. Talk to your doctor maybe there is something else you can try. And yes you can gain weight even doing all the right things - it happened to me. Stopped the med 20 lbs fell off - not possible BCS I was eating a lot. Just goes to show you how meds can mess up metabolism, etc.
