Tried a low-bar squat last night. It was awkward and better at the same time.

I don't know if it's because my hips weren't as tight this time, but when I tried the low-bar squat, I found that the weight felt lighter and I could go down lower with less resistance in my hips. But it didn't feel like it was sitting right on my back. I don't think I even had it that low, but it felt like my shoulder blades were in the way. The trainer said it looked OK, but said I'd probably start to have trouble with it as the load gets heavier and would have to go back to high-bar.
Do I just not have enough padding on my back for it to work? Is there something I'm doing wrong or do I just need to get used to it? I tried googling low-bar squats and it seems like the placement is all over the place.

Nothing is really set in stone. Try to find a position under your traps that's comfortable and secure, that's all that really matters.1
