I feel so sad!

I have been at this for 24 days now I watch EVERYTHING I eat. I am petite and last time I weighed myself I was 127 lbs. My goal is to lose 10 to 15 lbs but I am losing motivation to exercise...hell sex even feels like work!

I have an awesome family who support me with this....is this normal?

I am not admitting defeat I just feel unmotivated today. Help anyone...

    Your diary isn't public so it's difficult to really give you suggestions. here's a couple questions you could answer that might help people respond:

    What's your height?

    What type of exercise are you doing and how often?

    How many calories are you eating daily? Do you eat back your exercise calories?

    I think it's pretty normal for everyone to get into a slump every once in awhile. Just for example sake, last month I finished 30 Day Shred and loved everything about the workouts and my results. So then I decided to buy Ripped in 30. I started it but can't seem to keep it going for more than 2 days in a row.

    Ask yourself, what activity does your body feel like doing? I've realized this week that my body doesn't feel like doing circuit training, I want to run. And I'm having a blast running! Maybe your body is tired of its current exercise routine.

    With all this does come a level of needing to just make yourself do it whether you want to or not. Sometimes couches are just too comfy. But that couch will still be comfy 30 minutes later after a good workout. :smile: You got this!
  • Don't worry just regroup. Remember there is a lot more to you than just your body. It is a vehicle which carries your essence/soul/spirit through life so the idea is NOT to punish it but to nurture it. Would you race your Ferrari down a dirt track at high speed every day without giving it the best fuel you can get to make it perform optimally......or NEVER take it for a service?

    Be a princess about your body and have empathy for it. Give it the best nutrition for optimal function which is very simply put lean protein and raw veggies. Carbs and especially sugar is addictive and enflame your cells so that fluid can not pass through it properly. The low after the high of eating carbs also causes depression. If you can ditch the carbs for 5 days you will crack the habit.

    Move for the fun not for the torture! All you have to do is move and get your heart rate up for 20 mins each day. Use this time to do activities you enjoy. Swimming is great for ladies who do not like to have their bits wobble in the gym and interval cycling (as in along a nice path in the sun) is great fun. Get off the couch and out in the sun. The Vit D is an antidepressant and helps with weight loss.

    Other stuff that may sabotage you unknowingly:
    Hormones and Thyroid! (Let your GP do a simple blood test)
    Underlying depression (For which exercise is often a great cure)
    Processed food. (Think crisp and fresh)
    Too much weighing! (Your weight will fluctuate with water retention and menstrual cycle - don't obsess about it and weigh yourself once a month just after your period has finished.....in the morning)

    And lastly. If you don't keep trying its just going to get worse. Eventually you will become more sensitive to your bodies' signals and figure out what works the best. Getting to know your sports car and how it performs best takes a bit of time.

    (P.S. Next time you feel like cupcake or bag of crisps go for a many or pedi in stead...nurture, nurture, nurture)

    I would recommend making your diary public so that you can get more advice about the foods and exercise you're doing. Also it helps to keep you accountable for what you are eating. If you are truely logging all that you eat, you might think twice about having extra snacks etc, that everyone can see, etc. It is also possible that you might not notice a lot of weight loss right away if you are building muscle. Maybe try taking your measurements every week or 2 weeks to see if you are losing inches?

    Yeah, I think it's normal. You've barely been at this long enough to build a habit. Not really long enough to see real results. Trust me. I renewed my commitment to fitness at the start of the year, and depending on the day I weighed (period, recent high sodium meal, heavy weight workout, etc.), I have lost between 2-5 pounds. And I am pretty overweight and I'm big, so I "should" be able to lose faster than that!

    I say "should" because you really need to throw that word out when applying a generalization to a specific individual. For example, I have clinical depression. Depression basically means that everything is, well, depressed, or slowed down. Including my metabolism. Including my motivation to expend energy throughout the day. I do take antidepressants to remain functional enough to carry out daily tasks of living, such as bathing, dressing, chores, work, school, and exercise (no amount of diet and exercise has ever been able to control it for me). A lot of antidepressants have weight gain as a side effect, so I just have to take that into account.

    I do make a point of getting regular exercise because I know it is good for my body and my brain. You just have to start slowly so that you don't burn out. Eventually, a little exercise done regularly will enhance, not tap out, your energy levels, provided you don't do too much at first and burn out!

    I also refuse to sacrifice any of my lean body mass, so I do not allow myself large deficits that will create faster weight loss. I'm in this for the long haul, so I am willing to keep my calories controlled but higher to ensure that I get great nutrition that allows me to continue to get stronger and use all my muscle mass.

    I also have to eat a certain amount of starchy carbs. Even two cups of roasted squash and carrots along with my protein simply do not keep me feeling full. I get a very weird hunger sensation after a meal of just protein and veggies. And I know if I continue to eat that way consistently I am setting myself up for an acute bout of depression, which will lead to massive binge eating. So I eat about 70-150 calories' worth of starchy carbs at each meal and I am fine. That's certainly better than losing my s*** and eating four servings of ice cream in one day, and I feel good the whole time instead of wretched!

    (edit to add: 4 servings of ice cream in one day one time actually isn't a problem. It's that it would also be coupled with Belgian waffles, french fries, nachos, and a bunch of other stuff, and it wouldn't stop for weeks at a time, which actually IS a problem!)

    The reason I slipped up and gained back all the weight I lost several years ago is because I let somebody convince me that low carb was the only way I could achieve my goals, which led to a massive fail and it's taken me years to get back to balance. Please don't make the mistake I did!

    Point being, you have to play around with your diet for a while to find what works best for you. Then you have to adjust your diet and exercise so that you begin to lose fat. Then you don't deviate from what is working for you. It'll take time, but it *is* worth it!
