Hey All,
I'm hoping someone can help me out with some beginner exercises. I have been doing some walking but not a lot. I am planning to do i boot camp starting in June but I want to start exercising now so it is an easier transition. Thanks!

Swimming and water aerobics! Easy on your joints and almost anyone can move with ease in water!2

If you're a total beginner anything where you're moving more. Walking and swimming are both great to start to build stamina, as you get fitter you'll find it easier and you can look at what you enjoy.
Don't just concentrate on cardio - try to include some strength work as soon as you can, it helps maintain muscle and although the calories burned during the workout are lower than more intense workouts, it has a greater afterburn.2 -
My favorite strength exercise that I believe everyone should incorporate is the plank. Yes, it's hard to start toning your core, but it'll make your form and posture so much better as you develop those muscles. It'll only help every other workout you do.
Be sure to do front plank as well as each side. There are a ton of plank challenges on google to get you started as well as variations if you can't do the normal position. They're not easy at first but you can totally always improve.
If you feel up to it, start adding some basic squats, too. It'll help build up those leg muscles. If you want a challenge, again, google has a bunch. Pick a buddy to do them with!! It helps ☺️
Push-ups, too. I did them on my knees since December and just this past month I can do real ones now. Be patient and persistent and you can do anything.1 -
Walking! If you want videos on bad weather days check out Leslie Sansone's Walk at home workouts.2

To prepare for a bootcamp class, follow a strength program. A good starter program is the Nerd Fitness beginner's program. Skip any exercises you can't do yet.0

These videos are low impact and have simple aerobic moves, but the speed is fast. Because there is no choreography you can start at your own pace & then build up.

Also on DVD (check your local library). Just Walk series has a music only option & is chaptered so you can skip around.1 -
I love Leslie Sansone's walking workouts. I also watch Jessica smith, Tracy Campoli and body fit by Amy on YouTube and it helps get me motivated because I have no desire (and can't afford) to go to the gym.0

Here is the programme @Cherimoose recommended. I recommend it too.
Don't worry if you can't do all the moves right away, modify them, make it your goal to do the programme as written.
If you have problems with your hips, knees, or ankles, do step ups, side steps, or walk in place instead of jumping jacks, keep the arm movement though.

Here is another workout that is for beginners that I like. It uses dumbbells, but if you don't have any just use household items. If it is too fast for you to start with, watch it through making notes, then do it at your own pace until you cal work along with the programme.

Oh, aqua fit is great, that is where I started, then did the 2 programmes above.
Sorry about the multi edit, had to get the links and I'm on my phone.1 -
Walk more. If you cannot comfortably walk for e.g. an hour, there is little point in attempting anything more intense. Walking is gentle on the joints, you can control the pace, burn calories and build endurance.
If you need something more than walks, try swimming or aqua aerobics.0 -
