Money. Tax free money.
I used to participate in a lot of medical studies. The more invasive and time consuming, the more money you get. In 1985, when the minimum wage was $3.35, I got $2000 for allowing myself to be intubated and put on a mechanical ventilator (with IVs and monitoring) for 8 hours.4 -
