What choices have you made to eat out and be sociable (or eat in instead of cooking), that have been good choices and stayed within you're calorie budget for the day?

I'm finding myself researching menus before going to restaurants and making the decision before I go helps to plan a little better.

Would love to get more ideas/experiences of eating out and how to avoid a calorie blow out.

Pizza express (I'm in the uk, do they have pizza express elsewhere?) have these legerra pizzas, all are less than 500 cals. The one pictured is 369 cals("American hot") and is delicious and filling!

I tend to save my calories for a weekly blowout.

    1. Try subbing some of the food that sounds healthier with better choices like a side a broccoli versus rice with salmon, etc.
    2. Assume most of the dishes will have a high sodium content, so drink plenty of water
    3. Go for simple dishes that you could guess what's in it.
    4. Don't be afraid to go for something other than salad, they can be calorie packed as well unless you specify dressing on the side and take away some of the unnecessary add-ons.
    5. Assume your meal is going to be anywhere from 500-800 calories it you pick well if you're guessing

Totally! Sometimes when I've checked menus with nutritional values available, the salads (as they come before modifications) are actually among the highest on the menu!

I always go for dressing on the side with a salad - I always find they are smothered in that (IMO yucky) stuff.
I'll choose eafood often - know your fish which ones are low cal, and ask for them to be grilled Lovely stuff.
Vegetarian options can be good, but be aware of the nutcakes and cheese laden tarts.
Soups are a favourite - I stay away form the bread.
Eating two starters or a starter as a main (simple portion control)
There is one restaurant I frequent where it is a main dish plus sides ordered spererately I go for three sides no main

I often make sure I have had a significant amount of water before going to a restaurant - makes me feel less hungry
