Elon Musk is set to unveil a transport that will allow you to travel from LA To NYC In Under An Hour, Hyperloop System Will Let You Travel At 4,000 MPH.

normally id be skeptical but Musk has proven himself with PayPal, SpaceX, Tesla..

how awesome would it be to get around the country so quickly and so cheaply!

of course we'll have every other transportation industry fighting against it.

    Technically we are more than capable of achieving this. However, as you alluded to, the politics and economics are huge barriers. The more jobs in other industries (Auto, Aviation) that are threatened, the less likely it will happen. Also, at a minimum, you would need it to be backed by the Federal government, all the state governments it will be going through and a handful of private corporations for it to be possible. It's not impossible, but very unlikely.

    agreed on all points. im hoping that Musk has a lot of that stuff figured out since he is announcing it.

    Yes. I want one.

    It's not totally impossible to find the political will for these things, but it's a real hearts and minds battle. We recently got voters to approve half a billion dollars for our local school infrastructure, something I never thought would have been possible 10 years ago.
