Cutting out social media (Facebook, Instagram) as a tool to lose weight

Is anyone else doing this? Today I decided to cut out social media for awhile (Facebook and Instagram) as a tool for losing weight. I spend far too much time checking up on things on there that I could be using to work out, or actually speaking to my friends and planning things with them. I think it'll be a good challenge to see how long I can keep it up. I believe it'll help me lose more because I'll be bored and will exercise more because of that boredom. Thoughts?

Yes, this is a challenge for me as well, but in my case the distraction is MFP forums

Some people forum on their phones while walking, but when I try it slows me down too much. Plus I walk in the woods so have to deal with terrain.

If that works for you, then that's great. For myself, I don't see the use. I've got workout time, and I've got free time. I don't feel the need to stress about working out extra when I already work out. I need that down time like I need air, haha. Whether that's Facebook or something else is irrelevant; I'm not spending relaxation time on exercise when I already allocate time for that elsewhere.

Anything can be a distraction from what you need/want to get done. It's up to you to manage that, so whatever works for ya.

Bigger picture, you're just prioritizing your time... which is something we all do, albeit some people better than others. But most of us have 30 hours of things to do in 24hours worth of time. Being mindful of how important those different activities are to you, and how much time you spend doing them, is never a bad thing.

I'm not a big facebook fan, although I do check in periodically. I think mostly FB is a lot of fakeness, pettiness or crassness. People say things on there that they certainly wouldn't say out loud in front of their grandmother. Either that or the sappy sweet overload of positive affirmations. Hurts my sweet tooth.

Maybe I just have a crappy friend list, LOL. Too many serial posters who over-share all the minutiae of their daily lives. While I probably spend too much time on MFP, at least there's a health and fitness component involved so I don't feel like it's such a time waster.

One thing I do with MFP. I make deals with myself that I need to workout X number of minutes (or clean the bathroom, or do the dishes, etc) before I can go online. Keeps me active and stops me from spending all day on here.
