Competition training

I started competition training yesterday for a show in November. That gives me a little more than 6-months to train. First 3 months is focused on maintaining / building additional muscle. Last three months will be a solid cut cycle and maintaining my muscle. I will either be in Bikini or Figure division depending upon my overall body composition. I am thinking I will be in Figure since my muscles tend to build up easier and I have an overall cut look. Anyway... starting (yesterday), my goal at the end of these 6 months will be to weigh in at 115-120 and have a BFI of 10-15%. Now it's written out... I am accountable for my words. Also - if anyone else out there has any experience with competition training please let me know! I'd love to compare notes. Thanks!

Note - not sure which forum to put this in... sorry if it's the wrong one.

    What are your current stats?

I gave my thoughts on your original post about competing, and would really recommend a longer prep than 3 months.

My prep time is six months. The competition is on November 4th. I've already started w/a lifting/plyo plan and nutrition plan. My stats right now are - 129 lbs @ 19-20% BFI. I'm 5'5" and muscle growth tends to be cut/striated vs. smooth/toned. As stated above, the first three months is maintaining, hitting my macro's and pumping up the muscles. The last three months is a cut to lean out and reach my BF goal by the end of October. I have a solid plan and I have a competition trainer... but I am looking for stories from those who have been in the circuit and I wanted to post it here like... a new start toward a new challenge/goal type of thing. Thanks :)

Your prep is 3 months. What happens before you start cutting is irrelevant, I wouldn't recommend a cut of 3 months!

I have no idea what you mean by building cut/striated muscles vs toned/smooth. People look cut and striated when they are stripped to the bone and dry. Smooth happens when they aren't lean enough or watery.

Like I said in your other post, I've done plenty of comps.... What sort of stories would you like?

I'm confused...have you lifted before and already have the muscular base?? I've never heard of 3 months being enough for someone to build enough muscles that a cut will then reveal??

Don't take this negatively but your plan and how you talk about your ability to build muscle and how you build "cut/striated" muscle, makes me think that you are new to all this.

You will need longer than 3 months to diet for a show unless you know exactly what you are doing, how your body reacts and are lean already!

That aside; I am aiming to compete in the spring next year in mens physique so feel free to ask any questions.

    Agree..
Have you been lifting for a significant amount of time already and built a solid base?
I think a lot of competitors get into lifting/fitness and think "oh, I should do a show!" without putting in much time dedicated to muscle building. Unless you've been lifting for a significant amount of time, most women won't have the size usually seen in figure competitors.
I would hope, if you have a good trainer, that they would work with you and be honest about whether or not you're ready to compete though.

Yes I have been lifting already for a very long time and now I am working on more specific compound lifting. In the last 3 months I'll add more plyometrics. All I was really looking for was stories like... how was the competition? Highs, lows, politics, etc.... I have an excellent trainer who competed and won for years out in California and then in my area. I will be ready to compete in my first show. 3-months isn't long enough (to someone who posted that above), I've already built/bulked. I am maintaining and continuing to build and being more specific about which muscles need more... Let's see... what else... oh someone who mentioned smooth/striated, etc. No matter how much I bulk I am just naturally striated like as in you can see my veins and cuts (muscle). As I lean out it becomes more evident. So I was trying to determine, with my coach, which division I would fit into... Really, wasn't looking to be peppered with suspicious questions jeez  I have a solid plan and unless you know me in person I guess you'll have to take my word for it. Anyway... nevermind!

I would determine a category now - and start posing and practicing ASAP to get confident, and bikini and figure have different requirements... (although it depends on the fed... Do you just have to do quarter turns for figure? Or muscularity too?)

Wear your shoes around the house and practice smiling like the Cheshire cat...

Yes, this is very important too! Posing is much different in bikini vs figure.

Thank you!!! I did read about this... practicing posing! I have to read more about it to find out what the rules are. I'm meeting with my competition coach on Sunday so we can discuss. Cheshire cat... haha  I am having a hard time determining a category. Another thing I can discuss with my coach I guess.
