Do you guys think this is possible? I read mostly that it can't be done, but I have also heard it's possible.

If you are relatively lean and close or at goal weight, you can do a recomp - eating at maintenance, slowly gaining muscle as you lose fat. It's a slow process in either direction...
Or newbies to lifting may experience gains whilst in a deficit...1 -
Not unless you are a complete beginner or on drugs.2

If you're a complete beginner to weight lifting AND you're very overweight or obese, it can be done. Otherwise, maintain your weight and deal with the painfully slow process of body recomposition, or the better option in my opinion is to pick muscle gain OR fat loss and do one first, then transition to the other.1
