just be sure to give them a sound spanking before consumption12

I personally don't see any whole food as "bad" food...that's ridiculous.3

They are food of the gods and have an undeserved bad reputation.8

A baked potato ( no butter ), fish in butter sauce (boil in a bag) and veggies is pretty much what I live on most days and its low calorie also0
-
A baked potato has 37 grams of carbs, with 3.8 grams of dietary fiber which can be subtracted from the total carb count (net carbs). For a low carb diet, 50 grams of carb and under per day is the recommendation (Atkins has specific ranges). It really depends on your diet. If you were doing a low carb diet such as Atkins, you can see that even following a higher range (Phase 2 and up), if you are to have 50 grams of carbs a day a baked potato would leave you with around 17 carbs for the day.0

It's neither good nor bad. Just like most other things.
It's just a food source that contains calories and macronutrients. Just like all other foods.
The context and the dosage is what makes it good or bad. Just like everything.1 -
As I said, it depends on a person's specific diet plan.
If I was doing dietary education for a patient with an A1C of 10 or so, I would definitely advise avoiding potatoes in favour of other veggies.0 -
In Ireland people practically lived off of potatoes for a long time. Potatoes have lots of health benefits and are definitely not bad. But they are "semi-high calorie," so take that into account.0

I tend to have sweet potato instead of a regular potato.. It's a better carb..2

Sorry, lower in carbs than a regular potato, as well as fewer calories.. So I consider them a better carb than regular potatoes. Potato, potahto. Annnnnd discuss.................................0

100g of white potato has 92 calories and 21g carbs
100g of sweet potato has 90 calories and 21g carbs6 -

100 grams of sweet potato has 86 calories. 100 grams of white potato has 77 calories.
100 grams of sweet potato has 20 grams of carbohydrates. 100 grams of white potato has 17 grams of carbohydrates.
So if you prefer sweet potatoes, that's a good reason to choose them over white potatoes. But if carbohydrate and calorie control is your goal, the white potato is a better choice.0 -

No, they have different micros, but both are good and they pretty much even out. I like both so eat both. (I like roasted potatoes more than the kind I think of as baking potatoes, however. But IMO potatoes are good. Sweet potatoes, of course, are not potatoes, but both are tubers.)0 -
Oh, a lot of benefit of both is in the skin, and I find people tend to eat the skin more with potatoes than sweet potatoes, so that might be a consideration (or perhaps not).0

Potatoes are high in carbs so if you're watching those, then you may want to find something else. If you're not watching carbs, though, I wouldn't consider it a bad food. I like them very much, in fact, they just don't like me.0

I like all the potatoes.1

I could never live without potatoes... red, baked, butter, white, sweet... I am pretty much an equal opportunity potato eater.1
