Wheat Germ

So I just want to do a quick post about Wheat Germ. Sounds gross right. Well my daughter is disabled and has digestion problems due to non mobility and is in a wheelchair. Well her nutritionist yesterday recommended Wheat Germ for a better source of fiber. I did some research this morning on it and it can also help with weight loss. Has anyone tried this?

My mom likes to add it as a topping on our homemade pizzas. She puts it under the cheese so it kind of melds with everything, but I bet you could put it on top, too. It's not that bad, I certainly wouldn't eat it by itself but it does give a kind of nice denseness when added as a topping to things. I'll sometimes add it to smoothies when I'm at my parent's house, kind of like what you could do with chia seeds. She gets the red mill brand.1

What was the claim, that it's helpful for weight loss because it's high in fiber? Flax has more fiber. Wheat germ is just part of wheat grains. Whole wheat foods already have the wheat germ in them. I don't see a value in adding additional wheat germ (for weight loss).1

I was just reading that you can use it as a substitute for flour. And in doing so it can help to loss weight0 -
I guess it would be lower calories then flour 1 C Wheat germ would be 360 to 1C AP White Flour 455 so it is just a calorie deficit which is how you lose weight. Wheat germ would have a better nutritional value then AP White Flour.0

Weight-loss comes from eating on a deficit. Your daughter can eat anything as long as she is under her calorie goal for the day. There are many fiber options out there to be honest. Lots of nice cereals with high fiber count.
The nutrition facts actually looks decent, with high protein and fiber count but does it taste good? As long as she likes it, its fine but not necessary to push her to eat that if she doesn't like it.0 -
I like it on yogurt. It is the most fiber, protein, and fat-dense part of the wheat grain.
It can be added to flour to increase the fiber content, but as for weight loss, it'll also add calories. It'll just behave like whole-wheat flour. So it may help with satiety, but there's no weight-loss magic to it.0 -
