In the food diary, some items have a green shield with a check mark in the middle beside. What does this mean?

It means that multiple MFP users have checked a box indicating that the nutritional information is correct. It's designed to let people know which database entries are more reliable than others (that haven't been checked off by multiple people), but I have still found many errors in these verified entries.1

It means they are verified by a computer algorithm, so it may not necessarily pass the common sense test. You still need to verify all of the nutrition information is correct before using it.0
