Jogging part two

If I was to try and jog a couple times a week, would jogging a mile be too much? Today I managed a mile jogging which was followed by the rest of my walk which was five miles. Should I eat anything whilst on my walk or wait till walking and jogging complete? I tend to only drink water whilst on my walk and if I do eat I would only normally eat banana, orange or nuts. Any advise gratefully received xxxx

I don't really find i need food during a run if the distance is under 10 miles. For 13 mile run, I eat one gel packet halfway through the run. My water consumption is extremely variable depending on the weather. Hotter conditions I go through about 40 ounces of water during a 13 mile run. Cooler, I will tend to go through half that much.

Don't eat anything. You don't really need to refuel until you are doing runs over two hours.

Most beginner running programs are 3 times a week, 30 -35 minutes. Don't try to run every day, as you need some time for the muscles and joints to heal between sessions. You can add days later. But also do it often enough that you can improve. Once a week won't really help that. C25k has you start with 1 minute runs, but it sounds like you are already beyond there, so I suggest you walk a bit to warm up, then spend 30 or so minutes running slowly, then walking for 50 or so paces if you start feeling tired, then picking up the pace again. Keep the pace really slow, so you can carry on a conversation with someone with whole sentences. That will make it easier to go farther. At the end of 30 minutes, go back to your walk.

Do c25k. You need the phase in process to help condition muscles, tendons and ligaments. If it's too easy move through the first 4 weeks more quickly by doing 1-2 workouts from each week, then do weeks 5-8 as schefuled. It will be safer and only take a couple extra weeks. Have fun!
