Exercise and weight loss

It seems that the day after a good workout (one that involves cardio and strength training with at least a 500 calorie burn), I don't lose any weight. Is that normal?

Weight loss isn't linear. Your going to have ups and downs and times where you stay the same. If you had a hard workout it's possible your body is hanging ontowater weight to repair your muscles. It's about the trend not 1 day0

Yep ... perfectly normal.
Each weekend, I exercise a lot. And immediately after each weekend, I gain weight. Then toward the end of the week I lose it. It's just water retention.

Well, you might not lose weight even after a week of strength training. Especially in the beginning, because you are building muscle you have never worked before and muscle does weigh more than fat (since it's more dense). Don't get discouraged though - I find taking weekly progress pictures and body composition scans the most helpful, because it used to drive me crazy focusing on the scales.
As long as you consistently meet your calorie, macro goals and do your exercise - the scales will follow eventually x1 -
Strength training builds muscle if you consume enough protein. Otherwise it just hurts. Both ways it causes water retention for a very few days.1

Very normal. Nothing to do with "building muscle". You can't build muscle overnight.
But your muscles will retain water after being used more than usual. It's water weight.
FWIW, when I first started strength training, I "gained" about 5 pounds almost overnight due to this factor. They eventually dropped off.0 -
Yes, it is normal, but keep in mind that weight loss and fat loss are not exactly the same. If you are eating at a deficit, exercise always results in fat loss even if you don't lose weight.0
