College Students?

There have to be at least a few older (aka, not 18-21 year old) college students on a forum this large. What are you studying and how did you decide to 'go back' to school?

I'm 27, studying to be a Registered Dietitian, and really only was struck with "what I wanted to be when I grow up" in the last year. I'm 8 years married with a 6 year old and 2 year old. I did go for two semesters when the older one was younger but I wasn't committed to my major, it was something I was doing for the money. Money is still involved now but I'm actually really excited for my hopefully future career.

I'm 25 and I'm in a Fitness Instructor Certificate program, after I'm done with that, I might go for a degree in Exercise Physiology. I decided to go back to school because I wanted to do something I was passionate about and fitness was that. It used to be video games but now I don't play video games that much anymore.

I'm 24, married and a mama. In college but I don't know why anymore. I thought I should be educated for my kid but I'm not smart enough. So, 3 years in, lots of debt, and no closer to a degree. Oops.

Im 23, married two years, and in college to get my CPA, so my associates is business degree with a focus of accounting, then my bachelors and masters will be in accounting.. I just started last year so I still have another year before I can even start my bachelors degree, and then my masters so i'm going to be in school for awhile. It works for my family because next fall my husband is starting medical school, and we do not plan on having any children (this may change, but right now thats not where our focus is). I went back to school after searching for a job for several months and finally getting a position as an accounting assistant which was just pure luck, as I had no previous experience. My company was bought out, and I was brought to the new company as an AR specialist, and then I left that job and became a credit manager/contract admin at a different company. Surprisingly I enjoyed accounting, and decided if I wanted to actually make a decent amount of money, I would have to get my degree, while working through college to make sure I can apply what I learn in school.

Today was finals for winter semester. I'm confident I passed everything but not so confident in my GPA. 3 weeks until I start summer classes. I don't want to do online classes because I know I won't put in the same amount of effort that I would if I had to commute and sit in class. It also wouldn't have the same power to get me a babysitter and study time.

Working on a second master's degree. Love college and would never consider it a waste of time regardless of job prospects. Yes, beware of for-profit institutions... Some highly respected, well-established, fully accredited schools have online degrees, though.

I have struggled with college and higher education for years.... Got an associates of science as a prerequisite for nursing programs. Nursing programs ended up being almost impossible to be accepted into. 900 applicants per semester and only 30 accepted.

So I went to trade school. Best decision of my life. I became a licensed massage therapist. Trade schools offer a high demand of jobs behind it. And I ended up making about $60 per hour. $60 per hour for outcalls!!! Keep in mind there are slow seasons, and you cannot work hands on more than 25 hours per week or you will injure yourself, and building a regular clientele can take a year or more. The education tis very difficult though, more difficult than my associates. Allergies have gotten in my way now from overexposure to essential oils. No one wants to be touched by a hive covered therapist, and self-preservation should come first.

I started living paycheck to paycheck, and than an EF4 tornado destroyed my home. Luckily I survived, but I had to move back in with my mom. I have not had to live with family since I was 21.

So I took this opportunity to go back to school for my bachelors of science in managerial accountancy and using my background for my footing in corporate aspects of massage (franchises).

I absolutely love learning(literally anything and everything), but I am so tired of school. I hope this is what I want to do and can do when I grow up. I am 26 by the way. Lol no matter the choice, life puts you where you need to be. And everything you do in life is a lesson. Do not stay stagnant thinking things will just happen.

I have completed all of this while raising my daughter. I had her when I was 18. I promise, if I can do all of this, anyone can. It's all about the mindset.

35,married for 6 years, studying part time to complete a bachelor of science in nutrition, before doing masters in dietetics. It feels like I'll be studying forever!

I completed undergrad and postgraduate studies in music performance when I left school and still work in that field, but became interested in dietetics/health over the years and potentially a career change.

Going to uni this time is completely different to my first experience - I care a lot more about my results and put in a lot more effort (and it shows in my grades - they make up for the stress and anxiety I cause myself!)
