dog backpack carrier

Hi, this has nothing to do with MFP, but I'm sure there's a lot of people with dogs on this site, so I'll just give it a try. Our dog is getting up in age and doesn't do well with walks/hikes several hours long anymore. So I started looking at dog backpack carriers today, but only found some that are suitable for smaller dogs than ours. He is about 29 lbs. Anyone aware of a solution for dogs his weight? A rolling carrier would be okay on relatively even ground, but not really manageable on more rugged terrain, so we're thinking about starting to carry him at least part of the way.

My sister said why not just use a really good strong and sturdy larger backpack. Made with non-rip strong material. Cut two holes in the bottom for hind legs. Wear the backpack from the front. Would that work? In the outter pocket you could have his water, and poopy bags.
My older dog is about 18 lbs, and gets tired if the walk is long. So I pick her up and carry her. And at that time I always wish I had one of the contraptions your talking about. The younger heavier dog is around 24 lbs or so, she doesn't get tired at all.0 -
Thank you! I can believe that you get tired of carrying your older dog, even if she is much lighter than ours! Not sure with his size it's a good idea to wear him in the front, I think having him on the back is going to be easier on our bodies. I also thought about trying to make something myself, I have a sewing machine, and maybe I'll do some experimenting. I just don't know what position would be the most comfortable for him, you mentioned holes for the legs to hang out, I'm thinking with his weight it might be better for him to have his hind legs under his body and in a laying position rather than "sitting up".1

There are A LOT of different styles/brands on amazon as well. I looked into this at one point...didn't end up getting one so can't give you a recommendation as to which ones work well.2 -

I like @MoiAussi93 kick *kitten* find much better than my idea. Those are nice. If you end up getting one, post a pic.
Yeah. It was hard to hold her for a while, my ribs were broken. But I can now lift a 160 lb person everyday. But it still hurts.0
