Lifting with carpal tunnel?

I'm really wanting to resume lifting heavy but right now my wrists are so bad! Has anyone here had carpal tunnel issues and managed to find success?
I know everyone will suggest talking to my doctor and I have. He has basically shrugged off my carpal tunnel as "something that will either go away or require surgery" and won't give me a timeline for the first option since I'm not sure surgery is the right choice for me.
Is there any hope that I will be successful at returning to weight lifting?

Does it hurt when you lift? Which lifts? grip strength failing?0

I got the surgery. I'd get a 2nd opinion. My first doctor basically said the same thing as yours and I ignored it too long and now have permanent nerve damage. I'll never do the monkey bars again.0
