Self-sabotage ... the struggle is real!

Hi MFPeepers!

I'm just putting this out there because it's helpful for me to write stuff down and helps me with my accountability - and also to hear how others deal / overcome challenges.

So, I've been on this journey about 125days with lots of ups and downs and twists and turns. Overall, I've done ok - about 30lbs down from 240-210 on my 5'5" frame.

The problem is ... me. I have been struggling for the past 5 weeks with the same 2-3lbs and it's like I have this mental block. I am not at goal. My first goal was to get under 200 to 180 and I'm so close. And it's like I'm so close I'm doing everything in my power to sabotage myself to not reach that 199 or see 209, 208. It's so strange.

I still WANT to lose weight, I still am moving more, logging - but my discipline isn't at the same level it was the first 90 days. And, the weekends are a complete train wreck where I erase the entire week's worth of good work (literally).

Anyone else have a weird mental barrier around a certain weight? I haven't been lower then this weight in about 5 years and that's when I gained about 60lbs over that same time ... what did you do to get yourself over the hump? Break through the block? The mind is a wicked little beast and I'm determined to defeat the little devil that's standing between me and onderland ... but always love the wisdom from my MFPfam.

Thanks!

A few years ago I got to 198lbs (89kgs) and then started sabotaging myself. I had lost 21kgs till that point. Gained half of the weight back now and wish I had stuck with it. Just think of the hard work you've done so far and imagine having to lose all that again plus what you still have left to lose. You can stick at it :)

I would take it one day at a time. You've done amazing so far and you clearly know how to do this. You're doing great. So when it gets to the weekend this week, don't overthink it, just wake up Saturday with the intention of making it a great Saturday. Keep your overall fitness and health goal in mind, maybe even go out to buy an item of clothing that you want to fit into down the line. Take it one meal at a time, don't worry about Sunday or last weekend. Just focus on the day and meal ahead of you. Think about how you can best eat that day to achieve your overall goal. 4 weeks from now you're going to thank yourself for your discipline.

If the problem is that you somehow don't "deserve" to be at a lower/healthy weight, or think you just "can't" - I think it's a good idea to seek prefessional help.

If it's just your mind playing number games with you, you could change your settings to kilos or stones+pounds instead of pounds.

If you just get impatient, or are expecting weight to come off at the same rate as when you were heavier, or you get tired from your diet, or find your current exercise regime boring or exhausting, or you resent having to eat less - or something completely different - find out what it is. You can't change until you figure out what's going on.
