Just been on holiday for week & according to my scales I have put on 8lbs

At least six of it is water weight....if not more....give it a week to disappear before doing anything drastic....1

Did you fly? Flying can cause a great deal of bloat and water retention...I can put on a good 8 Lbs just getting on and off an airplane.
Mathematically, to gain 8 Lbs of actual fat in a week you would have basically had to go completely nuts and eaten 28,000 calories over your maintenance calories...bet you didn't do that.
When in doubt, do the math...the math isn't going to lie.3
