Looking for friends who have overcome major injuries

As you can tell from my pic I got hurt then had surgery. Tricep and tendon rupture at the elbow. be out for 6-12 months but after being out for the last 2 months stared walking today. And walk I did!!!! They keep telling me I wont be able to lift again but will have use of my hand. in 89 I broke my L5 ( lower back) then in 02 my C7-T1 ( neck ) been around.. vrrrrrrrrmmmmmm..... lol...... I'm looking for ppl who have literally had to rebuild themselves. Look forward to hearing from ya'll Bill

Not sure if this is the kind of major injury you are looking for but: I had a traumatic brain injury 16 years ago and had to overcome complete paralysis on my right side. Relearned to walk, talk, smile, learn to be left handed, and all the obstacles that came with it.0

I suffered a tibial plateau fracture just over 8 months ago... still working on recovery as I'm still in significant pain. Doc says I can't lift anymore because of the pain it causes me, so I'm using MFP to make sure I stay within an appropriate caloric intake... especially since I gained a fair bit of weight after the break (indulging in treats because I "deserved" them).0

- broke two toes where they join to my foot (so kinda the middle of my foot), tore a tendon and fractured my ankle bone
- broke my big toe in an avulsion(spelling?) fracture which means it split down and screwed the ligaments and tendons and nerves in most of my foot
- dislocated my c5 and c6 vertebrae as a kid (base of neck)
- had nerve damage in my neck as a teen and kept passing out
- dislocated 13 bones in my upper spine in one go, including my shoulder blade, and had to have them all manually relocated as they couldn't operate
- just found out I have skeletal hypermobility, worst in my spine, and will likely continue to dislocate vertebrae through my life
and I work out. Gym, netball, walking, swimming etc.....0 -
Used to be a competitive runner - very skinny, very fit. In college, I joined the women's rugby team. First year, I broke my collarbone, 2nd year I blew out my right knee (ACL, meniscus destroyed, tibial fracure -- all in one go!). I had to give up rugby, have reconstructive surgery, etc, but eventually worked my way back into running. I attempted training for a marathon a few years ago, but had to stop because my knee was loudly protesting my efforts (15.5 mile run was the longest I ever successfully completed).
Last September, I was in the best shape I'd been in since high school and was training for my first Tough Mudder race. Two weeks before race day, I rolled my ankle while out on a run, then rolled it again (harder) when I was out dancing that night. I walked home thinking it was *maybe* a sprained ankle at worst...turns out I suffered a Jones fracture in my right foot! I spent more than 6 months high on pain killers while the bone fragments drifted further apart, rather than fusing together. The bones never joined back together, and the doctors said I may never run (pain-free) again, but I'm now off the pain killers completely and working out consistently again.
I just finished the Insanity program in its entirety and am training for a half marathon in November, supplementing my runs with Turbo Fire workouts. I still experience a lot of soreness and occasional active pain, but I am determined to get myself back into "*kitten*-kickin' shape." Tiny but Fierce, yo!0 -
I'm what you'd call a work in progress. Suffered a lower back injury about 13 years ago and just lived with the pain/stiffness until it go so bad that last year I had to see a back specialist. I had got several bulging discs that were pinching a nerve in my right leg and causing massive amounts of pain and numbness. Went in and had surgery, and was doing pretty good up until about a week ago when I felt my back start up with the tightness and pain again. Looking at laying off the weights for a while (at least deadlifts and power cleans) and focusing on DDP Yoga again, as I had some pretty good success with it a few years ago.0
