Proximal hamstring tendonitis (high hamstring tendinopathy)?

Has anyone had this? Was it the result of overuse from running? How long did it take to heal? What exercises did or didn't you do in the meantime? Any info is appreciated. FWIW, I have been under the care of a PT, I am just looking for some actual experiences.

The term "tendinopathy" suggests a chronic condition that is likely exacerbated by overuse. Meaning, yes, it is likely related to running. Unfortunately, "high" hamstring injuries take the longest to heal. My experience with hamstring injuries is that they can be particularly frustrating because you can get to a point where you can do almost anything but running. And until it's completely healed, it's easy to reinjure.
My experience with this injury was over 25 years ago so hopefully treatment and rehab have improved. I'm not the best at following rehab programs, but mine did not heal for 14 months. I think that's a worst case scenario, and I probably delayed recovery by trying to return to running too soon. The good news is that I don't think it predisposed me to future hamstring injuries. I've never had a problem since.
Depending on where you are in the process, alternate exercise can include: arm bike---->rower

I worked the eccentric the barbell squat and deadlift. I was back at it in a couple months at normal speed.0

Thanks for the replies. Yes, it was definitely the result of overuse from running. I am currently not running. The issues started in February and I immediately cut back on my running and sought help from a PT, but I had a marathon in April that I was not willing to forgo, so he helped me with a program to get me through that with the understanding that I would need to take some time off afterwards. Running a marathon definitely didn't help matters, but now I am willing to put all of my focus on getting them healed (both legs).
I have been doing some strengthening exercises (straight leg deadlifts, bridges, vectors, etc) and stretches given to me by my PT. To maintain my cardio I have been doing the stationary bike and also started swimming. I was wanting to start the P90X3 program, but I am not sure if it will be too much impact for my hamstrings. I have also been doing a good bit of walking, but again, I am not sure if this is only preventing healing. I am no longer seeing my PT, but it is far from healed and I am considering going back, but there really isn't anything more he can do for me other than to tell me to keep doing the exercises, which is why I was seeking advice from others with experience. I understand that it can take a while to heal and I don't want to do anything counter-productive.0 -
I injured my hamstring by doing speed work and pushing the pace too much. It took about 18 months to heal completely, but I was able to continue to run, I just kept the pace easy. I also ran a marathon with the injury and was fine during the race. It is still tight, but not painful. I didn't go to a doctor because I knew they would say I should rest it and I didn't want to stop running. I did one session with a PT to get some exercises which mostly focused on hip flexibility.
