I hope this succeeds and a form of this program catches on everywhere along with reasonable access. (Access to fresh fruits and vegetables is sometimes a problem for the poor, too.)

    Hopefully they will also educate the applicants as to what kinds of produce will last a while in their fridge verses produce they need to prepare in a few days. I'm sure it would be discouraging to finally get good food that you otherwise couldn't afford and have it go to waste.

    Good point. Hopefully that kind of valuable info is included in the nutrition counseling.
