Here I am again, on a journey to a healthier me.
A week ago I ended up in the ER for severe pain from an infection I was fighting and to my surprise my blood pressure was through the roof! After the whirlwind of tests, blood draws, ekgs etc that happened in such a short amount of time and everything coming back normal I was left scared.

Scared for my health and my future. So for the past week I've all but removed all the bad from my diet and have eaten the cleanest I've eaten in two years. I feel better already and I believe I've already lost 6lbs. It's hard. I've had some very intense cravings and feel like I'm going through withdraws of sugar and salt. Most difficult has been dealing with the fogginess in my head. Today is the first day I've woken up and not felt completely lightheaded and my stomach seems to be settling into the new diet.

I've not been recording all my food, I find I become obsessive about what I'm eating if I do that and get mad at myself if I go even slightly over the calorie count. But I've drastically increased my fruit and veggie intake, have been eating less sodium and cut my sugar intake by 90%!

I'm finding it difficult with my fiance, she thinks she is eating healthy but refried beans in a tortilla loaded with cheese isn't exactly healthy. And because of that we've been eating all our meals separately, where as we've pretty much always eaten our meals together. I've told her I'm on a journey to a healthy ME and if she wants to be included I'd love to cook for her too. I feel a bit selfish but I can't risk it this time.

PS.: Anyone have suggestions of a good bathroom scale?

Great job in doing this! If my husband would cook the meals, I would be in heaven. :)
    Good for you!

Congratulations for being on here and getting healthy for YOU!!! My husband really needs to lost weight.. He travels for his job and says it is so hard to eat on the road.. All restaurants have a protein and veggies... He would rather have a burger, fries and beer.. So I am eating healthy for myself and try to cook better meals for us.... It is hard when you don't have the support of your spouse.. I have done this program before and it really works....I lost 25.. and my friend lost 50!!!

A one off high bp reading when you're in pain and sick isn't necessarily something to panic about. Keep an eye on it, but don't assume you're doomed. Make small changes for the better that you can maintain long term, rather than trying to overhaul your entire life overnight.

The withdrawal from the salt and the sugar is the absolute worst, I remember it all too well :( But once you get through it and stick to it, you'll be amazed how much better you feel! The first couple of weeks are the worst but if you stick with it you'll be so happy you did!

I mean, I had chicken tacos with a whole can of refried beans on the side. Then I logged it and was under calories enough to eat 3 cookies I legit made from chickpeas (beans and baking man... I didn't anticipate that being good). So, look for recipes you'd both enjoy. There's a way to balance things out that your health will benefit and you'll get quality couple time to boot.

Also... Don't get hyper focused with being over a day or two. A week ago I was over 3 days but still under for the week and dropped 3lbs. It's when you're over ALL the time that your worries have merit. Food can still be enjoyable and nutritious. Good luck!

Refried beans come in a fat free version and you can buy lower fat cheese and low carb tortillas to make a "healthy" taco. Or load up your taco with low sodium black beans, sauteed onions, peppers, brocolli, squash, etc., a smaller portion of cheese and some low fat sour cream and fresh tomatoes. You don't have to give up foods you love and you might find your partner lusting after your more interesting, fresh tacos instead of her boring out-of-a-can ones.
